If I was a plant, I would be a cactus. Prickly, dense and plain. Yet I unwillingly survive the desert that is called my life.
"Elias..." My father demanded a response from me.
I was day dreaming, drifting off from his boring topic of work.
"What?!" I rolled my eyes. "I'm twenty-one. I'm supposed to be out drinking and you're keeping me cramped in your private library."
"Just grow up! Grow up for God's sake." He snapped back.
I stared back at him silently. He carried on and on, dragging on about his workload and what he wanted me to do.
"You are to finish school." He paused to inspect my listening skills. I nodded.
"Yes." I shrugged.
"And you're going to work for me." He didn't smile like any normal dad would. Instead he had a stale look on his face, his face seemed hard and he delivered me the same look as always. Annoyed.
"Yeah I get it, I'm going to be an intern for a while. Then I'm going to move up your long ladder of CEO's and financial managers." I sighed. It was the same routine; twice a year I would go out to see him and his "glorious" manor, he would assert his power and then force me to beg for money. Then the rest of the year, I would get checks from him and continue my work in the office.
And he would occasionally force his way into my college life and insure that I'm taking the right classes.Surprise.
"Can I go? Is that all you wanted of me?" I raised my eyebrow at him.
"Yes, leave. Now." He turned around in his chair and continued to go back to work. His cold bitter voice burned in my head.
I hate you.
I'll always hate you.
