Selene

Darkness. It's everywhere. It surrounds me alongside silence. The quiet night is all I can see. The full moon shines brightly from above lighting the world around me, yet I see nothing. It's just me, the moon, and the night. The moon glistens in the night sky, almost calling me. Something about the large glowing ball that rests in the sky encaptivates me. Swallows me as I bask in the moonlight. Slowly losing myself in it. More and more I sink into the light. Until

"Selene. Selene sweetheart, It's time to wake up." I hear my mother's calm voice as she gently shakes my shoulder. "Five more minutes mom." I can hear a chuckle, as she sits beside me on my bed. I open my eyes to see her warm gaze on me. "What?"

"Nothing It's just, you know I love you right?" "Yeah, why?" I was confused as to why she would suddenly ask me this. "Mom? Is something wrong?"

"No no, It's just your eighteenth birthday is coming up, and you're graduating this year. You'll leave soon and I-" I interrupted my mother with a hug to calm her down. I could see tears were starting to form in her eyes as she was speaking. "Don't worry mom, even when I leave to go to college I'll still come back and visit you guys."

"Good because I don't think I can survive being left alone with your dad and brothers." A tear rolled down her face as we both started to laugh. "Oh come on they aren't that bad." She looked at me with an 'are you sure about that face.' I had to laugh at her silliness. "Ok, they aren't that bad all the time." We both smiled one final time before getting off the bed.

"Come downstairs your father made breakfast." "Ok. I'll be down in a few minutes." She gave me another warm smile then turned and headed for the door. "Hey, mom?" She stopped and looked at me and hummed as a response.

"Hmm?" I returned a warm smile to her. "I love you too." She had an even brighter smile on her face than before and told me to be down soon. I agreed and turned to look for something to wear to school. I searched through my closet and decided to wear something simple. I found a pair of ripped jeans, a black top, and a red flannel to wrap around my waist. To complete my outfit, I wear a pair of hightop white all star converse. While looking in the mirror in my room, I hear my brothers running down the hall

"Trey! Get back here!"

"No way. I'm gonna ask Selene she'll give me an honest answer!" Why do they have to involve me in things? While in my thoughts my younger brother Trey ran into the room. His breathing was off as he slammed his body onto the door as he came in and closed it behind him. He looked at me, and I crossed my arms raising an eyebrow.

"Hey, sis." "What is it this time Trey?"

"What? What do you mean?" He added like three a's to that what. Really if you don't want me to suspect you of something don't make it obvious. "I appreciate you telling Dylan that I'll be honest with you. I like the faith you've put in me."

"When have you ever given me bad advice or lied to me?" "Touche. Ok, what do you want?" His expression immediately turned serious. Now I was officially interested. "Trey? What's wrong?"

"It's Trista." Oh great, his girlfriend who will flirt with anything that moves as long as it compliments her or shows her attention. "What about her?"

"I asked Dylan since I heard a bunch of girls talking about her, what he thinks of her." "First what did you hear?" It looked like he was struggling to say whatever was bugging him, so I walked towards my bed and sat down. I patted the spot next to me, and he came over eyes looking towards the floor. "What happened Trey?" He sighed and then hesitantly looked at me

"I heard them talking about her and Taylor making out in the locker room after school. I've heard a lot about her doing things, and I've ignored them until now. I saw her hanging out with a lot of different guys, and I've noticed her start to hang around him a lot recently." I can hear the sadness in his voice as he talks about her I knew that she wasn't good for him from the start. I just wanted to give her a chance, and hopefully, she would change. I reached out and rubbed his back to calm him down. "What did Dylan tell you that he thought about it?"

"He believes everything that I told him and everything that he hears from people." I knew he would.

Dylan and I have always tried to look out for Trey no matter the circumstances and not question who was hurting him. When we were little, there was a little boy who was always mean to Trey and wouldn't leave him alone. Trey didn't want to be mean to him so he never fought back, knowing me and our little brother Dylan would step in, he never told us. Eventually, we found out and also learned that he was lonely and wasn't treated well at home. So we decided to try and make friends with him so he wouldn't be alone. To this day he is still the closet friend my brothers have and the closest guy friend that I have.

They're all complete idiots together, but it's cute to watch them. Dallas is like a brother to me, Trey, and Dylan. He's always over at the house and stays over all the time. He's super flirty with me, but it's funny sometimes, especially whenever the boys hear 'cause then they're all over him about it. I wonder if Dallas has heard anything, he's outstanding about hearing things that people don't want him to and then telling us. He's the kid who is always watching and listening and you don't pay attention to him. "Have you asked Dallas if he's heard anything about it?"

"Yeah and he said the same thing as Dylan." "What did Dylan say?"

"That I should break up with her." "What do you think?"

"I don't really know or else I wouldn't be here." "True." He looked at me with puppy eyes and pleaded for my advice. "Don't do this to me, you know I can't resist your puppy eyes."

"I know that's why I'm doing it." He intensifies the cuteness of his eyes, and I break. "Fine!."

"Yess." He claps his hands then throws a punch in the air in victory. "You owe me."

"Fine dinner wherever you want." "Deal!" I turned to him, crossed my legs, and put a serious look on my face. "Go to school today and ask her about it. When you do though make sure you look into her eyes to see if she's lying. If in your heart feel like something is off, then you know what to do. Ask Taylor too you guys have been friends for a while maybe he'll be honest with you. If he feels off too go to Dallas again and ask him to watch them and see if he hears or sees anything else."

"Thanks, sis, this has to work." He hugged me, and I rub his back a little again to again calm him down, cause frankly, I can't breathe. "You can let go now."

"Oh right sorry." We both laughed a little; soon the laughter was interrupted by our growling stomachs. "Come on let's go before we're late." I smiled at him and rose from the bed.

"Ok, sis." He had a bright smile and followed me downstairs to the kitchen where I found Dallas and Dylan fighting at the table, next to our mom and dad who were eating silently.

"That's enough boys; you need to eat before you go to school." My mother said with a stern voice.

"Sorry, mom." They said releasing one another. They turned and looked at Trey and me as we walked to join them at the table.

"So what did she say?" They both said with their undivided attention towards Trey. He lifted his head and had a blank expression on his face. Quickly he had a small smile that looked pained. In a calm voice, he answered them.

"What I needed to hear." He looked at me, and he smiles. I was proud of him. I gently grabbed his hand and gave him a reassuring nod and smile.

"Is something wrong Trey?" Our parents were looking at us waiting for our answer.

"No, Selene helped me with a problem I had so everything is good now."

"Ok, but sweetie you know you can talk with me and your father about anything that's going on right?"

"I know mom, thank you."

"Of course, now eat your food so you won't be late."

"Ok, mom." We all started to eat our food and enjoyed talking with one another while eating. Soon enough we finished and headed to school. All the boys piled into the Mercedes Benz waiting for me to drive them to school. "Really?" They all nodded their heads. "Did you ask mom and dad if they're ok with me driving you guys to school in this?" They all again nodded. Great, I was hoping to take my bike to school since I just got lights put on it. I got my baby upgraded with new suspensions and tires, and I'm super excited. My joy ride is gonna have to wait until later then. "Fine." I sighed and got into the car. I can tell just by this morning that this day is gonna be interesting.
