Naintara's POV
In the midst of the giggling of women and girls, I was made to sit. It was a haldi ceremony. In India, applying haldi (turmeric paste) and henna (a temporary tattoo made from the leaves of henna) is considered auspicious during the wedding. It's considered as part and parcel of wedding ceremony.
It was a day before my wedding. My sisters informed me that the King and the family has already arrived in the palace where they are staying as guests. Which meant the prince too must have had arrived. I wanted to meet him and show him my face. Surely he would have already known by now about my looks but it would be better if I show him a live demo.
However I was forbidden by my mother, Queen Jamunabai. It is said that seeing the face of groom before the marriage is unlucky. But I was against it. It would be better if he sees me now rather than regretting the marriage forever. Plus I was the Commander in General of my nation's army and my kingdom needed my leadership. But my parents and siblings were too happy about my marriage. And I felt sorry for the prince. However I was my father's daughter. I wouldn't give up.
So I made up a plan. I decided to sneak into his chambers at late night an confront him. He might get terrified and leave the idea of marrying me. I could even fix his ties with any of my other beautiful sisters. I guess sister Malvika would be perfect for him. That would ensure the alliance of his kingdom.
At night, I ordered servants to leave me alone in order to get the sleep. As soon as I was left alone, I closed the doors of my chambers so no one could enter. Then I opened a window and with the rope, I begin climbing down the fort. I knew that his room was situated exactly below my room. It was easy climbing down the fort because I wasn't wearing saree or heavy jewellery.
Luckily for me, the windows of his room were open. And then I entered the room. It was dimmly lit with the candles.
