“Today with us on KWRT 102.3 is Grace Daniels, renowned author of the Moon River Saga Series. Good morning Gracie and thank you for joining us today.” Fox Rivers the show host smiled at the woman sitting beside him in the radio station.
“You’re welcome Fox, I’m happy to be here.” Grace smiled slightly adjusting her head set.
“Now I’m sure most of our listeners here know this, but for a few that are newcomers to your books, tell us a bit about the series that is the talk of the book stores.” Fox watched her carefully, he’d never met the author in person before but had at least spoken to her on several occasions.
“Well, Moon River Saga is a series about my brother, cousins, friends and me growing up. That in itself was probably pretty boring, but we did do a few stupid things that kept life interesting. My parents were journalists and traveled quite a bit, and most of the time my brother and I stayed at home with our Aunt and two cousins.” She paused. “And in a small town when there’s not much there, you find ways to entertain yourself.” She smiled.
“What was it like when you got the first book published?”
“Well I was a little more than shocked, I couldn’t believe that someone actually thought it was interesting. It was simply a little story about my brother and I getting lost one summer up in the mountains behind my aunt’s house and the adventure we had there… embellished of course by our over active imaginations.” She laughed. “One of my college professors had taken it and let one of his friends at a publishing house read it, and they took ti and ran with it, and that short story became the first chapter in the first book of Moon River Saga tales of the Daniels Twins.”
“Now, in the books your characters are named Daniels, is it safe to assume that it’s not really your name?”
“Very safe. Grace Daniel’s is actually a combination of my two grandmother’s last names. Rebecca Grace and Vivian Daniels. And most of the other characters are so named as well.”
“Do you mind giving us your real name?”
“Not at all, my real name is Makaela McLinen… it’s the name you’d see on my plane ticket or waiting for dinner reservations. I never really thought about having a pseudonym before, but… I must say that it has kept things rather quiet for me, unlike people who are in movies, my face isn’t all over the place, just my ‘name’, and so most people don’t know who I am unless they’re huge fans.”
“Have you thought about making them into a movie or a mini series or anything like that?”
“Movie yes, mini series no. I’m not sure why, but I almost feel like we could fit all the important stuff into a movie and a mini series would drag it out too long, but… when we’re done with the screen play it may be too long for just one movie and I don’t know if I want to get involved with a series.” She shrugged tucking a loose strand of hair back from her face.
“What about the rumors of there not being any more books after this one comes out next week?” Fox looked at his listing of questions, they were almost all gone.
“They aren’t rumors. As of right now I don’t have any intention of writing beyond this book.”
“Any particular reason why?”
“Well …. There’s not much worth writing about after the character of Val left. He went a way, life went on, we grew up and moved away.” She shrugged a bit of a lost look in her eyes as she fiddled with a piece of paper. “Things went much darker than most of our youth had, and I really don’t want to disappoint my readers by having given them so much fun and up lifting stories to drop a huge twist and darkness on them.”
