Eighteen hours of hard labor and I was thoroughly spent. All I needed was my husband, Dean and our beautiful baby girl whom we named Maylin.

After giving birth, I had to wait for the epidural to wear off. It had taken nearly four hours, which I was thankful for because the nurses had to help me bathe. I knew that if I hadn't had the after effects, that that would have been an even bigger pain.

Once I'd had my shower, I was put into another itchy gown and wheeled into my room.

“Hey Sweetheart,” Dean greeted me, standing up from my bed where he was watching tv.

The nurses gave us instructions and I could see Dean get agitated. When they left, he followed them to the door, shutting it all the way.

“Finally! I thought they'd never leave,” he said, going to my overnight bag and pulling out the softest clothes.

“You heard them, Dean. I have to stay in my gown,” I winced, trying to situate myself.

“Hey, hey,” he soothed, his hands moving up and down my arms, “This gown looks far from comfortable, and what I want from you right now, is to relax and let me take care of you, alright?”

I smiled and nodded.

Slowly and gently, Dean helped put my pants on.

“Hold onto my shoulders,” he instructed, as he pulled me to stand.

I did so, holding him tightly since my legs were still weak. When he went to pull the gown off, I cleared my throat, embarrassed.

“You're beautiful, Sweetheart,” he said, kissing my cheek.

“Meh,” my breasts ached something fierce, and were hot due to the fact that the breast milk had arrived full force.

“You with me?”

I winced when the fabric touched my breasts, “Yeah, just tender… I need to try feeding Maylin,”

Dean nodded and helped me back onto the bed. He adjusted my pillows and covered me with my favorite blanket.

His phone rang.

“It's Sammy,” he answered, standing at the end of the bed, rubbing my feet to get them warm. He nodded a couple of times and said bye to his brother.

“Sammy brought us some grub. I'm gonna get it and we'll see about getting baby girl in here to eat,”

I had fallen asleep after eating, the exhaustion finally taking over me. I don't know how long I was out for, but I was woken by strong hands massaging my lower stomach.

“Sorry Sweetheart,” Dean whispered as he continued his task.

I smiled sleepily. The pressure of his hands felt nice.

“Why do we have to do this again?”

“It helps the uterus contract so no blood clots form,”

He nodded, pulling my shirt down.

A nurse came in moments later, wheeling in our daughter. She was slightly fussy, her cloth covered hands swiping at her cheeks.

“Somebody's hungry,”

After the nurse explained how to hold Maylin, and made sure that she latched onto my breast, she left.

Dean sat next to us, his fingers softly moving over her cheek, “I can't believe she's here,”

I sniffled, trying to control my emotions, “Me either. She sure does have her Daddy's appetite,”

He laughed, kissing my cheek, “Thank you Sweetheart,”

“For what?”

Dean’s eyes watered, “For giving me the chance at a beautiful family,”

“Ditto,” I whispered against his lips right before I kissed him.
