My nerves were a complete and utter mess this morning. I was meeting Dean's family.

We'd been together for eight months and even though he wanted me to meet them earlier on, I always had an excuse.

I didn't get along with my parents at all and had nothing to do with them. So the whole really close to family bit was always a sore subject for me.

Being mentally and at times physically abused growing up would do that to a person.

Dean being the Sweetheart that he is, totally understood and never pushed me. That being said, it was Memorial Day weekend and I wanted to spend my vacation with Dean since we both had been super busy with work lately.

He also wanted to see his family and I was not about to be that girlfriend that would keep their significant other away from their loved ones. I was ready to get over this fear I had and he was absolutely surprised.

"Are you sure?" He asked.

I shook my head no but answered yes which made us laugh.

Dean cupped my cheeks, his thumbs smoothing over them, "Talk to me,"

I swallowed when a lump formed in my throat, "I'm terrified... What- what if they don't like me? What if they think I'm not good enough for you?"

"Sweetheart," Dean gave me a soft kiss, "They're goin' to love the hell outta you. I promise,"

A drink in my hand and leaning against Dean, I laughed at the quirkiness of Dean's cousin, Garth.

Things had gone so well that I felt ridiculous for having so many doubts. Everyone was sweet and the amount of compliments that I'd received was monumental.

Dean kissed my ear and excused himself to get another beer.

"Everyone sure is glad you came, Y/N." Garth said.

I looked around at the family drinking,  eating and laughing, "Me too,"

"Y/N! Y/N!" Matilda, Dean's six year old niece came running up to me.

"Come play wif me!" She begged.

I nodded, putting down my drink and excusing myself from Garth.

After a few rounds of tag and a round of hopscotch, I plopped down in the grass, spent. Matilda sat in my lap, cuddled up to me, yawning.

Feeling someone watching me, I looked up to find Dean staring at Matilda and I while he sat talking to Sam.

He looked briefly at his brother, then back at me, giving me a not so subtle wink.

I blushed, sending a small kiss in his direction.

It was going to be a journey of healing, but I'm glad that I'd have Dean and his family on my side to help me along the way.
