I slipped on my regular 'smile' to the bar I work at. It's required, other than that I'd be a bitch to most of the assholes that come here. I also have to put on my regular fake 'niceness'. I am generally nice but not to people like Scumbag Steve.
"Hey Caelyn! How've you been?!" Annamarie says with her Tennessee accent that most of the town possesses seems except me. She is always such a nice person, just came back to the bar from her maternity leave. I'd say she's one my best friends here in the bar. All the other waitresses are bitches, who never follow protocol by the way, but somehow they get extra tips. I need all the extra tips I can get, it's not easy raising your eight year old sister! Especially a smart one with such a cheeky mouth.
"Oh I've been good! How's the baby?" I ask, her eyes immediately brighten up. She loves kids especially my sister.
"Oh little Annie is fine, she is givin' us some restless nights. But you know babies, they are always cryin', it's hard cause sometimes she's cryin' and I wanna go pick her up but Billy says no she gots to cry so she learns Independence-" She keeps rambling on and talking in circles about the baby and sleep. I just nod and smile. After I she stops I change the subject.
"So do you know who's playing tonight? Bill just told me there's gonna be a live band tonight." I ask.
"Oh yeah! There is, I just heard it was two guys from Ohio or somethin' they are blues and rock I think, I was hopin' for some country."
"Yes! I'm sorry but you know I hate country, I hope there good cause my head is hurting from all this talking." I say, we both look around and see all the guys of the bar just yammering on about god knows what.
"Okay they are suppost to start in five minutes! Oh there they are. " She points to the guys setting up, well one guy, the drummer. The drummer was tall and lanky with small framed glasses, he overall looked nerdy and geeky. The guitarist who was just standing there was Thick with a beard which matched his redish hair. He turned around to look at the crowd, he had green eyes but his eyes had heavy bags. It looked like he was a meth attic that hadn't had slept in years . . . so a overall attic. He looked kind of nervous, I would too a bar full of hard faced men with a couple of old women thrown in.
When the drummer finished setting up, the usual happened the lights started dimming and the spotlight was on them, the guitarist nervousness came out more.
"Girl is on my mind...
try to ignore, try to unwind,
she is on my mind
eyes are in my eyes...
where I've been, how time flies,
she is in my eyes
see her standing there...
she's gentle now, she takes great care
see her standing there
hold me close to you...
not one thing, that I would not do
hold me close to you
girl is on my mind
she is on my mind
try to ignore, try to unwind
she is on my mind" He sang, the whole time his eyes were on my and sometimes closing or driffting off. I made me uncomfutable at first but then it was nice. Quite enjoyable, I've never been sang to.
"That was Girl Is On My Mind." He smirked, "Here's The Lengths." He looked down on the guitar like it if it was a child and started to play. By the end I was somewhat blown away, the song was so nice and beautiful. They played six more songs, She Said She Said, Yearnin', Run Me Down, Grown So Ugly, Thickfreakness and If You See Me.
