I wanted to tell her that validation

Doesn't come from the amount of likes on Facebook

Or followers on Instagram.

I wanted to tell her that self-worth

Isn't measured by the amount of boys

Wrapped around and between your fingers.

I wanted to tell her that the world lies,

But I knew she wouldn't listen

I wanted to tell him that Love

Was not to be misconstrued with lust,

And he would know the difference if he'd wait.

I wanted to tell him that you're never too old.

That forever isn't a transaction where you bargain,

50 cent candy bars for a relationship that lasts until next period.

I wanted to tell him that the world lies,

But I knew he wouldn't listen.

I wanted to tell them to look in the mirror

And find out who they are

Before deciding what they want.

I wanted to tell them not to drive too fast

And try hearing someone else's stories

Before writing their own

I wanted to tell them that I wouldn't lie,

But I knew they wouldn't listen
