Deku's POV
*Ring* * Ring*
The bell of UA rings throughout the building and through the carefully bricked pavement, lined with statues, which lead to the entrance doors of the school.
A few minutes before
I make it on sight with my friends, Uraraka and Iida, about ten minutes early (Iida insisted), so we just watched all of the students flood in. Students from all classes from all years entered the premises, some in groups, some alone. After a few minutes of loitering, I notice Kacchan come on site. Alone. He usually has his 'group of friends' around him. People like Kirishima and Sero, bit they're nowhere to be seen.
'Strange...'
I think to myself as I unknowingly watch him walk past. We make very awkward eye contact. Well... It was kinda awkward. The way the reflection of the morning sun shone bright in his valiant, scarlet eyes. His pupils expand then retract as we break contact. This moment was not brought up by either Ochako nor Tenya.
Present time
We all file in to our home room and are greeted with the usual. Aizawa-Sensei on the floor, sleeping bag-clad, gossip passed on from Ashido to various students, Bakugo becoming riled up over some little thing someone had said (maybe they mentioned me? He usually blames me for things I haven't done...) and other various, small groups of friends huddle around desks. I take my place and the small bundles of students take their places too as Aizawa-Sensei rises from the floor to take the register.
"Yaoyarozu Momo"
"Present"
"Aoyama Yuga"
"Présent"
"Koda Koji"
*nods*
"Katsuki Bakugo"
"You know I'm already here, damn it!"
I want to tell him to calm down but he'd probably threaten to blow me up into a million pieces if I even tried to talk to him, so I stay silent until my name is called.
"Home room Dismissed"
The teacher calls out and we all rise from our seats (we had hero practice first). I look down as I move along, thinking I'll go unnoticed, until I slightly clash shoulders with someone.
'Kacchan...'
I say in my head as I keep my eyes fixated on the ground.
"Hey, nerd. At least apologise for pushing into me!"
I, only just audibly, mutter an apology under my breath and try to carry on. I've already lost Uraraka and Iida, so it'd be best if I just carrier on moving.
I'm sick of looking at the monotone, muted grey of the corridor and look up for a moment.
"At least say sorry! Geez..."
I hear Kacchan's aggressive voice in my ear. I try to divert my attention to the waves of students who pass through the corridor, but it's like they've been muted out. Faint words can be heard. Think of it like trying to look at a blurred image. You cannot focus on it. I snap back into reality as Bakugo tightly grips my shoulder and pushed me into an empty, one way corridor.
"Could you not hear me?? I asked for an apology, but did I get one? Noooo"
"Kacchan, I-"
"No. I know your scared of me. I can tell"
I'm not scared of him at all, to be honest. I look up to him.
"Kacchan, I'm sorry. We need to get t-"
"Oh NOW your apologising! Great! Thanks!"
His remarks were sarcastic. I can tell by the way he acts and how his body language changes- Never mind. That just sounds creepy. I'm not CONSISTENTLY watching him, but I've known him all of my life, more or less, which kind of gives me a bit of leeway in my knowledge on Kacchan. He stares me straight in the eyes. Ice cold. Soul piercing. Merciless. His eyes were almost fully erased of their charisma and colour from earlier on. It's almost upsetting to see how much emotion can be lost in such little time. My face slightly reddens with a pinkish dusting because of how awkward this situation is.
"I'm sorry. Okay? I know you hate me and all but..."
I trail off in embarrassment. I wasn't supposed to sound sarcastic or ironic in any way. I hope he doesn't think I was.
"B-b-but what? Spit it out already!"
His tone is laced with impatience and, somewhat, pitifully remorseful.
"Can we at least be on... good terms... maybe?"
"We're already on good terms!"
"I mean like friends!"
I almost shout. I shut myself up before Bakugo tells me to.
"Friends? Pah. Whatever. Just don't get in my way"
He turns to walk away and my brain fires words from my mouth like bullets, which pierce Kacchan.
"I like you. Okay? I like you a lot".
Bakugo stops in his tracks and turns to me.
"And what am I supposed to take from that? You like me? Stop being foolish..."
What was hidden inside of a tough shell has been exposed. His aggressive tone begins to fade and the colour that was once lost in his eyes have now returned.
"What do you mean by 'you like me'? As in friends or... what?"
A tint of confusion can be found within Bakugo's demeanor.
"I... uhm... mean more? More than... friends?"
I subtly reply, trying to hold back all of my pent up regret. Bakugo slams his hand against the wall, right next to my face and looks me dead in the eyes. I know he was trying to frighten me, just so I could take back what I had said and brush it off as a joke. But no. I say nothing, so his hand moves away from the wall and he pulls me into a slight embrace. We just stand there for a while, hugging. Nothing more or less. He pulls away and puts his hand on my cheek. I jump away as he creates explosions from his fingertips. He laughs. Not maniacally. Normally. It's nice to see him genuinely smile. "We're already late as it is! Come on!" I call to him and we run down to hero practice. Not hand in hand. But there was a connection I know there was. And I know there is.
