Layla was going to be the name of my unborn sister. She would have been two and half years under me. Sad thing is that my mother had a miscarriage. Although I love my older sister and brother, it would have been nice to have someone my age.
I remember the day that she had the miscarriage. I shouldn't be able to remember since I was so young, but it is one thing I guess I'll never forget. Mom was at least 6 months pregnant and we were all at a restaurant when it happened. Mom was having lobster, Dad was having a burger and I, being the child I was, was having chicken nuggets and fries.
Mom had been having cramps that day and she had said she didn't feel too good, but they had decided that if she still felt horrible by night fall that they would take her to the hospital.
Night fall ended up being too late.
I remember asking mom several times if she and Layla were okay and she'd just smile at me and tell me everything was going to be okay. I believed her, but when we were at that restaurant everything changed.
Right in the middle of dinner, mom fainted.
I didn't know what was going on at the time but as soon as I blinked my dad was at her side. Everyone in the restaurant was staring at us, unsure what to do.
After a moment a stranger ran up and asked started asking questions. If I knew what I do now I would have known she was preforming CPR on my mom. But at the time when the woman yelled "Hey are you okay?" While tapping her shoulders I thought she was a lunatic because it was obvious she wasn't going to respond.
The lady got my mom to the floor and started preforming rescue breaths after checking her heart beat. Mom wasn't breathing and the woman had already called for an ambulance and they couldn't come soon enough. There was blood all over where mom had been sitting. Dad, after realizing he was useless at this point, he grabbed me and took me to the bathroom with him and tears were running down his cheeks, as well as mine, and he told me to stay in there until he got me.
Sammy, the owner of the restaurant, came into the bathroom moments later and led me to the kids area that he had. I knew that my mom wasn't okay and I knew that Layla probably wasn't either but I knew that if I was with Sammy that I would be safe.
Sammy didn't seem to have the glow he usually did that day. No one did.
Luckily mom survived, but I found out that Layla wasn't going to be apart of our lives not long after that. At the time they didn't tell me she was dead, they told me that Layla was on a vacation.
They just never told me that the vacation was a forever one...
