Only Human (part 7)

So earlier is when everything went down. It's 2:37 AM and Austin is sitting in his room staring at himself in the mirror*
—— talking to himself——
I cant believe I did that. I hurt everyone here. I didn't know what I was doing. I was drunk for crying out loud! I understand why everyone would be hurt but still... I was drunk and they need to understand that! Oh... not a good idea though... what if I offend Zaniah? It wasn't bad... I mean it wasn't right but it's wasn't terrible.... UGH what the hell! Austin your so messed up! You slept with you friend who had feelings for your best friend and now you don't know if it was right? Of course it wasn't right

*he gets up and starts pacing slowly, looking at the clock realizing he has been talking to himself for an hour already. He turns toward the window and leans on the wall, looking at the moon*
—then again talking to himself—
Austin. Just apologize. You messed up and now your guilting yourself. If you apologize and truly mean it they should understand. It's gonna be okay *he says taking a deep breath*
It's gonna be okay. *he goes back to the bed and lays down on his side, staring out the window at the pouring rain, watching the lightening crash in the distance*
-after about thirty minutes of staring off into a haze, he sits up-

Man I'm gonna go outside and get some fresh air...

*he silently steps out of his room and slips into the garage, stepping outside without a single soul noticing. He sits on the patio watching the rainfall silently. After about another half hour he steps inside as quiet as possible. He hears a small click. A door. Weird. It was 4 something so he wondered why anyone would be awake. He creeps slowly into the living room, getting a view of the kitchen to see the fridge open*

*its about 4:30 AM. It's pitch black and the house is silent other then the ticking of the clock on the wall. Madelane slips her door open quietly and steps out, wearing an oversized t-shirt and shorts, trying not to make a sound. She steps slowly towards the kitchen and opens the fridge. She grabs a bottle of water and puts her hand on the handle to close the door to meet Austin's hand which is also holding on to the handle, along with his gaze. She jumps and looks down, trying not to make eye contact or pay attention to the fact that he's wearing boxers and no shirt*

Maddie: AUSTIN?! *she says whispering loudly, almost dropping the water bottle, barely catching it*
Austin: Jesus Christ! Calm down I just came to get a drink....
Maddie: You scared m- Austin are you okay? You have really big bags and you look like you haven't slept... is that water in your hair? *she says confused, trying to distract him from the fact that she hasn't slept either*
Austin; uh... yea I'm good... just tired. Um I went outside to calm down.. thanks...
Maddie: I.. oh... so... goodnight? *she says in a low tone, gripping the water bottle and turning away*
Austin: Maddie... are you alright?
Maddie: uh yea I'm good- why?
Austin: Are you sure... I... Maddie...
Maddie: *she stops staring forwards, being a coward rather than looking him eye to eye she* y- yes?
Austin: I'm sorry... I.. it didn't mean anything... I think.... I don't know.. we both were drunk and we didn't.. everything just happened so fast and things escalated and-
Maddie: Austin... it's okay... you could have just told me you had feelings for Zaniah... although I thought it was Reyna- that doesn't matter sorry. Anyways you made up your mind and that's okay, really, I'm happy you found someone as amazing as Zaniah...
Austin: but that's not what I want... I don't think.... I think we both were just drunk and things took a turn. Maybe for the worse. At this point I don't want to know.
Maddie: then what do you want? Sorry. That came out wrong. I- goodnight Austin *she says face turning a deep red color as she steps toward her door, barely holding onto the water bottle*
Austin: Maddie. I want you. I... I always have...
Maddie: Wha? Yo.. you do? *she says turning to face him still not meeting his gaze, looking down at her hands which are gripping the water bottle extremely tight*
Austin: I didn't know what to say in the woods that night because I was scared I would get shut down so I panicked and said Reyna.... I'm sorry if that hurt you *he says walking towards her, putting his hand on her chin and moving a piece of hair out of her face*
Maddie: Wh..... what about Zaniah? I think she has feelings for yo- *she gets cut off by Midas who starts sleep-talking*
Midas: sleep talking; "mom. I don't want your McDonald's. No. Do not sell me a lollipop you dirty old man" *he says turning back on his side and falling asleep*
Maddie: *she giggles and covers her mouth still trying to be quiet, turning back to meet Austin's eyes on her*
Austin: Maddie... I love you *he says looking in her eyes inching towards her. He comes in for a kiss*

Austin's POV
I messed up... Zaniah and Maddie and Reyna... I played with all of their feelings but I've made up my mind now... I know what I want
*he inches forward, wrapping his arms around Madelane's waist gently*

Maddie's POV
*slowly inching forward as well before stopping, blushing like an idiot as usual*
Oh my god. He's trying to kiss me....
no one understands how much I wanna kiss back but I can't..... Zaniah
*she stops and jerks backwards almost tripping*

Maddie: I- I'm sorry we... I can't.... do that to Z *she says tears welling in her eyes, turning towards her door* G.. Goodnight Austin. Sleep well *she says slowly clicking the door shut and slowly falling onto her bed. She sighs quietly and stares at the ceiling, watching the sun rise as she slowly starts to fade into sleep*

*Austin stands there, dumbfounded. He stands still staring at Madelane's door, his only wish being for her to come back out... she doesn't. He slowly walked back upstairs to his room, slumped with his head down. As he inches the top step he is greeted by focused Mihael, who is reading a book under the lamp in the upstairs living room*

Mihael: why hello Austin.
Austin; huh? Oh hi. Wait wha?
Mihael: are you alright?
Austin: yea I'm good why? *he says looking longingly at his door, only wanting to sleep and let it all go for awhile*
Mihael: u sure? You don't look okay... *he says closing his book and setting it down*
Austin: I'm fine... did you hear anything from downstairs? I mean uh... never mind sorry. You should go back to sleep....
Mihael: okay whatever you say. Also, no, I heard Midas say something about dirty old men but that's about it. Okay.. I think I'm tired enough to fall back asleep now... it's been a long day *he says looking at his book realizing that he made the situation awkward*
Austin: yea *he says turning slightly red, turning towards his door slowly*
Mihael: * hesitating* A.. Austin if you ever need anything I'm here... I know you think you messed up really bad but it's okay... everyone makes mistake, whether or not that was a mistake. Your human. That's okay.
Austin: *he stops and takes the words in, thinking deeply for a single moment before the slightest sign of being okay shows through on his face* thanks Mihael. That helps a lot.
Mihael: no problem. Goodnight Austin. *he turns off the lamp and goes into a guest room, closing the door with a click*
Austin: it's been a long day I really need to sleep *he says inching toward his door, clicking it shut. He lays down in his room, looking at the picture of his bedside table of him, Maddie, Zaniah, Reyna, and Midas, all smiling and happy. He stares intensely at Maddie who is piggy back riding on Zaniah's back while Reyna stands in front of Zaniah, squatting and doing a peace sign, as Midas stands next to Austin, both of them smiling big*
If only things could be like that again *sigh*
But I'm only human... *he says closing his eyes,
falling asleep almost instantly*
