Sorry for the long wait:S We both kept forgetting to post this chapter for you:/ Anyway, next chapter in 10 Votes? - Lauren
"So Dakota," he began as we took a seat behind the table. "What made you volunteer?"
"My mum," I replied almost immediately. "How about you?"
"I've always volunteered," he said. "I like working with the kids. It's better than spending my days at home watching TV or fighting with my brother, you know?"
Oh, he was a nice guy. An actual nice guy. The moment he found out about me he would run away fast enough to leave a Corey shaped hole in the wall.
"Yeah I do. My brother practically dragged me here."
"So when did you move here? I've not seen you around before, and believe me. This is a small town. You'll know everybody within a few weeks."
"I didn't move here," I said. "My mum sent me to stay with my brother for the summer."
He ran a hand through his curly blonde hair. As he passed a glance in my direction I definitely felt as though I had seen him before.
"Oh, people are coming," he said sitting up straight in his chair. "The boys usually come here first. Then there are a few girls being pushed by in-denial dads."
I smiled at his remark before turning my attention to the doors as the children started to flood through, followed by exhausted parents ready to rid their children for the summer.
"It's pathetic of their dad's to do that though, they should be able to choose what they want."
Pathetic.
The word rang through my head but I couldn't place it.
"I wanna do football!" I turned my atttention to a little boy who stood opposite me. A woman stood behind him, who I assumed to be his mum, cleared her throat. "Please," the little boy added.
Corey passed me a clipboard with a sign up sheet and I handed it to the mum who scribbled the necessary details down, including contact information in case of an emergency.
"I like your hair!" I little girl squealed. At first I didn't realise she was speaking to me, but Corey joined in.
"Yeah," he said. "I wasn't going to say anything because I didn't know if it was deliberate."
I playfully nudged him. "Hey!"
"No, I'm joking. It's pretty cool."
"Thank you," I said to him, before turning to the little girl. "And thank you! Are you hear to sign up for football?"
Her tongue peeped out of the corner of her mouth as she racked her brain for an answer. "Do you like football?"
"Indeed I do," I said. "Love it."
"Then yeah!"
The girls mother came stumbling over and filled out her details, whilst Corey had parents queuing to fill in his form.
After an hour or so the hall began to drain and only a few stragglers remained. Corey got up from his seat behind the desk and walked over to the group of kids that were here to play football - all of which were wearing shorts and t-shirts, except for a few that were all kitted out. I quickly followed after him and stood to his right.
Corey clapped his hands loudly.
"Who wants to play football?” It was almost a rhetorical question due to the reason of them being here but of course the children cheered and shouted ‘Yes’. Corey then began to explain that we’ll do some foot work such as passing and dribbling around cones before lunch and then after there'll be a few games, which will ultimately lead up to a tornament at the end of the holidays.
