POV - Jess

I woke up early as I usually did through the whole summer but this time I stayed in bed looking at my phone for a few minutes.

It’s the last day of summer and school starts tomorrow, I'm really excited because it would be a new beginning for me and after what happened last year I kinda need it.

I turned off my thoughts, got up,  stretched my body and went to the kitchen. “I'm so hungry”, I thought to myself, so I took a look at what was in the fridge and drank some fresh apple juice, made some pancakes and sat down eating breakfast.

I heard the front door open and saw Tyler looking all sweaty and tired, he must’ve gone for a run. Neither of us talked while he drinked water directly from the tap.

- I'm going to take a quick shower, be right back sis - He told me.

- Alright, I'll go after you.

I wish I was a morning person so I could be more productive as some people are, but everytime I try to do something in the morning I usually end up procastinating and not doing anything at all. I think I lost willingness to do something in the morning after what happened… "Stop thinking about it" I told myself.

When I was done eating my breakfast I went back to my room. Had nothing to do and no one to hang out with. To me that’s normal by now, the only person I hanged out with this entire summer was my brother and some of his friends because he forced me to do so.

Since I’ve moved from Pennsylvania to New Jersey I've been by myself most of the times and I really don't mind it tho.

I like to be alone honestly, I know that’s kinda weird but it makes me think about so much, like myself and the future. It gives me a little bit of anxiety aswell, but I try not to focus on that as much.

And even tho I left everyone behind in Pennsylvania, I don't miss anyone really, expect for my dad. He’s always on my mind.

- You can go now – Said Tyler has he openned the door.

[Next day]

What I though it would be a great day, ended up being the most boring of my life, not kidding.

I am in the passengers seat and Tyler is driving me to school. I am nervous about meeting new people but I know that shouldn’t stop me from being myself.

- You're going to be fine. - he told me while we hit a red light.

- I hope so!

- We have the same lunch period so if you feel alone or don’t feel like meeting anyone new, you can come sit with me and the twins, you know that, right? - Obviously I would rather eat in the bathroom floor than have lunch with my older brother and his friends, because I don't have any.

- Of course, thank you. - I said.

It's so weird that me and Tyler are friends now, cause all my life we didn't really talked as much as we do now. Since my parents got divorced we supported each other obviously but now we're like best friends.

- We’re here. - he said. I got out of the car.

- Have a good day Jess.

- You too, love you!

- Love you too sis!

[In classroom]

It is my second class of the day and I am already tired of being here. My maths teacher is the most akward lady I’ve ever seen and she seems to be really mean.

I’ve never been good at maths and a teacher like that wouldn't help it at all.
Last year I had my ex boyfriend helping me with my homework. "Fuck why are you still thinking about that asshole?" I said in my head.

I got so distracted that I didn't even saw a girl coming in my direction until she touched my shoulder.

- Excuse me, can I sit here? - she asked.

- Yeah, of course!

- Hi, I'm Sarah.

- Jessica. – I said, while smilling at her.

The bell rang and when we got out of the classroom Sarah asked me if I wanted to join her and her friend at lunch. I aggread and when we got there Sarah pointed to a long dark hair girl.

- It's her - she said while we got closer.

- Hi bitch! – said the brunette girl to Sarah.

- Sup hoe?! This is Jessica. Jessica, meet Harper – Sarah had now introduced us.

- You can call me Jess. – I said.

- Cute name, I like it! – Said Harper.

- Thanks, I like your hair!

She smiled at me and we started talking about some of the classes we had later.

Meanwhile I saw Tyler, he seemed to be looking for someone, I knew at that moment he was looking for me so I lifted my arm and he saw me, he smiled at me and then sat back down.

- Who are you smiling to? - Sarah asked. - Oh my… he’s cute!

- Hmm… that's my brother…

- That means you know who that guys is? - Harper asked looking at their table.

- Which one? - I asked.

- Not the twins, the other one. - she said.

- Nope, never saw him before. I just know the twins, they’re my brother’s friends, Grayson and Ethan.

- They’re cute as hell! – Said Harper.

I nooded, even tho I actually never looked at them that way before.

- They’re just my brother’s friends. Don’t get to caught up in your feelings girl. – I said as we laughed.
 --------

After a long day at school, we got home and my mom was in the kitchen cocking dinner.

- Hello kids! - she said excited. - How was your first day?

- Normal, I guess.  – Said Tyler, while laying on the couch.

- And you Jess? - Mom asked.

- Me too, I got to meet two girls. They’re friendly.

- That's nice! Go change your clothes and come help me with dinner kids.
I went upstairs, took a look at myself in the mirror, and thought to myself
- First day wasn’t that bad, maybe my time has finally come. Maybe I can finally forget about what happened last year and I can be happy, or less sad...
