When I was a kid, less than 10 years old wearing more than 10 hair clips all at once, I discovered the marvelous-slash-profound-slash-magnificence induced that are contained within the delicate pages of a book. Upon my discovery, I learned I could travel to places. Earthly or not. Mundane or dystopian. The possibilities are endless. No need for a Visa, or to book for a flight! Every journey is scrapbook-worthy!

In our Cytology lecture, we have had discussed the greatness that is Genetic Mutation! I remember these great books that I have read as a youngster. I was new to my stepfather's home and in his house, there were lots of books. While wandering and familiarizing myself with the place, I found a shelf filled with them. I instantly fell in love and gazed at the beauty of the site. From the same shelf, I have read books about science. Books that told me that Yuri Gagarin was the first man on the moon, and why stars twinkle, or how Dodos are extinct. Also, it introduced me to the concept of Genetic Mutation. Of how we came from single-celled organisms and how evolution took its time and here we are now! I knew from that moment that I will love reading. Especially about things related to the existence of living organisms. When we had this topic in cytology, I was low-key psyched to listen to the discussion. I have yet so much to learn about the concept of Genetic Mutation.

After the discussion, I was honestly happy with what I learned. The most significant thing I realized during the lesson was how mutations were not always a bad thing. I mean, just think of the X-Men, or Lucy! Hahahah! I mean, seriously, compared to last month I was only equipped with the knowledge that mutation is equal to destruction. I thought it would only give us Cystic fibrosis, Huntington's disease, Down syndromes, and other life-wasting conditions. But today, while writing this? I am extremely incorrect! I have come to realize how significant these errors in gene replication are! I would not be here now doing this assignment if genes were able to replicate perfectly. There would have been no World War I, no man on the moon, no books! This earth would have been inhabited by the species that originally lived in it. Still, I can talk about all the good things about this topic, but we cannot deny that it also has its downsides. But, I dwell in possibilities, that is how I roll in life just like Emily Dickinson did and so I tend to lean on the bright-side. I know that these Genetic Mutations are still happening, and I hope, and I pray that these do not come to a time that they become uncontrollable and too much. For all I know we could mutate into people with wings but let us not get carried away.

Learning this topic has given my mind the idea that I could be a future ancestor of mermaids or fairies or people with a collective mind! Genetic mutation can do that right? Cytology is fun like that, and I have so much more to learn!
