The sound of children laughing and playing replayed in the front yard. Two brothers happily played together with the small brown mutt tumbling around in sync. Happiness rang through the property through laughter. Dusk fell upon the sky as the boys grew tired of wrestling. "Come in, boys," their mother shouted out for them, "Dinner is ready."
The two, along with the dog, pouted as they all walked through the door to smell variety of foods ranging between macaroni and steak. "But I wanted chicken nuggets," one of the boys pouted. The mother ruffled his hair, "We can have chicken nuggets tomorrow night," she smiled. This brought a smirk onto the boys face.Xavier's colorless eyes darted through to the teacher as she looked at him with an annoyed facial expression. "Xavier, answer the question," she demanded. "What question," He retorted in a rude tone. The class muttered a low giggle. "Pay attention, Xave." the teacher scolded very demandingly.
As the bell for the last hour rang Xavier was to stay after class. "What's going on with you," The teacher asked in concern. "Mrs. Spencer," the tall boy leaned down to the teachers height to reach eye level, "that's none of your business," he spoke in a low voice, sending chills down the teachers spine. "I'm worried for you, Xave." he furrowed his eyebrows, "Then don't worry," he leaned back up to his original height, "if you'll excuse me I need to meet with my brother," was all he said before he left the classroom with an unfinished conversation. Mrs. Spencer sighed as she went back to her desk to the load of papers scattered across her desk. Looking down there was a stack of F's with Xavier's name scratched off at the top.
On the lonely road, Carsyn waited for his brother impatiently. He finally saw a tall figure with red hair and assumed that would be his brother, "Why are you so late," He nagged. His brother forcefully shuffled past him, bumping his shoulder. "Mrs
Spence kept me after class," he mumbled to Carsyn. The blonde said a silent "okay" and continued down the road in silence as he walked with his brother.Later the two boys got home to their mother and father yelling at each other over who-knows-what. "I told you, I know that boy is on drugs!", "You cant say that if you don't know for a fact!", "Then why-", Xavier was used to this as his little brother was not, being that Xavier was more thick skinned than Carsyn. The red head interrupted the argument with a loud and scolding, "We're home," The mother jumped in surprise as she heard the screen door slam. "Oh," She laughed in a timid tone, "Hello boys," she smiled, embarrassedly. She only received an angry look from her oldest son as he threw his backpack on the leather couch and saunter to his room.
Carsyn sat on his top bunk looking down. Tears pricked at his eyes but he quickly wiped them as his brother walked in, slamming the wooden door causing the room to shake a bit. He immediately got his laptop, sat down on his bottom bunk, and opened it. Carsyn sighed to himself, looking at the wall. What if they get divorced from all the fighting? She already hates us so it wouldn't be surprising. Carsyn's mind spun with all the questions, causing his head to hurt more and more. He shook it off and got out a book and started reading, trying to forget about his thoughts. Soon black fell onto his eyes.
Carsyn jolted up in a cold sweat and heavy breaths. He pulled his book off of his face and looked at the room around him. At the doorway was Xavier walking out, fully dressed. "Where are you going," Carsyn abruptly whisper-yelled. Xavier spun his head up to Carsyn, realizing he's awake. "Going out," he responded. Carsyn took his phone and turned on the device with the glow earring onto his face. "Twelve twenty-two." It read. Carsyn jolted his head back in Xavier's direction only to realize he was gone and heard the front door shut. He sighed and laid his head back down and went back to sleep.
