Weary whispers slithered through Carsyn's head, unable to understand what language they spoke to him in. His drowsy state prevented him from being afraid. They continued their whispery melody until-
"Xavier!" Carsyn's head bolted up as he heard his mother shout. He hears loud footsteps stomping towards his door. The wooden barrier swings open forcefully to reveal a crying, concerned mother. "Where's Xavier?" she cried. Carsyn was caught to abruptly to comprehend what was happening so his lips were sewn into silence. The mother cried louder as she asked again, "Carsyn, where is your brother," she questioned him more demandingly. His words were caught in his throat, not knowing what to say. "I-I don't know," he studdered out. The mother continued to cry as she dropped her shoulders and hugged her husband in worry.
The front door creaked open. Xavier's head peeked in and looked around, making sure to be silent. He heard his mother's shaky and loud voice and her room. The redhead closed the door silently and tiptoed to his room seeing a relieved Carsyn. "Why are you home so late? You were supposed to get here before Mom and Dad woke up," Carsyn reminded him. Xavier shook his head, "I was but I fell asleep at Hayden's house."
Xavier stopped when he heard footsteps towards his room. He sighed holding his head up, ready for a hard lecture. He felt a hard slap on his arm that didn't hurt him much, knowing it was from his mother. "Where were you?" she shouted at him. He sighed, trying to come up with a lie. "I was outside," he lied. Xavier looked at her with low eyes as more questions grew in her head. "Doing what?" she demanded more. "I was on the phone with a buddy," Xavier snapped at her and gave her a look of annoyance and anger. Her questions faded and was no longer as suspicious. She awkwardly walked out after giving Xavier a kiss on the cheek.
After the door was shut a grin appeared on his face as he grabbed the bag he set down. Carsyn, however, was disappointed. "You shouldn't have lied to Mom like that," he told Xavier quietly. Xavier gave a questionable look. "Why should I care? It's not like Mom actually cares she's just a control freak," he retorted with venom in his words. Carsyn had a more hurt look in his eyes.
The younger brother observed the black bag. It was a small bag with strings to pull to close the bad when needed. A very plain looking bag. Carsyn asked, "What's in that bag?" Xavier looked up from his phone to his brother in surprise. "Uhh, homework," he quickly answered. Carsyn gave him a skeptical look, "Can I see?"
"No!" Xavier quickly snapped at him. His face went slightly pale. "I-i mean, it's already completed. Theres no need to look over it again," he studdered out. There was an awkward silence between the two until Carsyn continued to give him a skeptical look, though went back to his book.Later that night, Xavier left his bag in the room with Carsyn as we went to fix something to eat. Their parents went out to dinner while their kids stayed home. Out of pure curiosity, Carsyn peeked his head over his bedside onto the ground, looking at his brother's bag. He silently stepped down the stairs of his top bunk onto the floor and walked over to the bag and picked it up, studying it. Carsyn took a quick sniff, but quickly crinkled his nose from the scent. It smelt terrible, like skunk.
He opened the bag and didn't see homework. Instead seeing two bags of marijuana and ADHD pills. Carsyn was heartbroken. He didn't expect, nor want his brother to become like this. He knew that his brother wasn't the most mentally stable but he didn't want him to cope in this way. A tear pricked his eyes once again as he dropped the bag onto the floor. He sniffed, not caring about the scent of the drugs. He could barely take the cries he held in, but he continued to stab himself with his feelings as he kept all of it in, and wiped his tears once more.
