It's been a week since the audience with the Crossbreed and within that single week I had sent all of my people into hiding. Some alone, some in small groups depending on personality and their hostility towards the humans. Now I stand here on a mountain looking down at my castle below me. "Your Majesty." One of my guards said with an underlying meaning. I closed my eyes and let out a breath. I turned around, my black cloak sweeping the ground. "Let's go" I said as I pulled my hood over my head and walked away. Leaving the only home I've ever known.
After a few hours of walking we came upon a small town. One would think of it as a place no one would ever live if given a choice. After all, many towns and villages within the radius of my castle have countless of stories that were passed down from generation to generation getting alternated and exaggerated. With my three guards behind me we made our way through the town. We went through alleys and dimly lit streets as to not cause suspension that could compromise our travel.
Unfortunately, when we were near the border a young girl who looked to be about 2 or 3 ran in front of use only to trip on a rock and land face first. The girl soon began to cry. My guards who have been a bit startled believing that what they had sensed was an animal had crowed in front of me with their swords drawn. After asserting that it was just a small mortal child, they sheathed their swords and stared down at her. "Emma!" a boy's voice called from the forest that surround the town. The boy ran out to the girl. "James!" Another voice rang out as a girl about 5 or 6 years old ran to the young girl and boy. "Are you alright?" Said the boy. the older girl sighed and said "You need to stopr running ahead" The little girl wiped her eyes as she continued to cry. Watching the odd display, my guards soon grown to be irritated. Showning just how much hostility they have. As if sensing the irritation that was radiating off my guards, the boy looked up at us. His face morph to one of shock. For a moment I thought that we were found out but I remember that all of us were cloak in black with hoods covering half our faces.
"James, what's wrong?" the older girl said as she turned to look at the boy. Her eyes widened when she saw us. For a moment it felt like time stopped. Even the crying girl stopped and was staring at us. Before any of my of my guards could tell them off. I began to walk forward. I could smell them. Their emotions were a jumble mess, but none of them indicated hostility. When I was about to pass them, I took out a plain hankershif and held it to them. "Use this to bind her knee." I said. Both the boy and the older girl looked a bit surprised. The boy took the hankershif. With that I continue to walk pass them, my guards followed me single file in silence. After a few moments of walking one of my guards broke the silence.
"My Queen, I know it isn't my place to inquire this but will you please explain why you gave the Vermin your hankershif?" Still walking, I shifted eyes to him.
"If we are to hide within the human world we need to learn how to interact with them without acting in such a way that would get our cover blown."
"Please forgave me, My Queen." He said with a bow of his head.
"It's fine." I told him
Once we got to the next town we could see how much of a difference the towns are compared to one another. While this town was run down it was a major step to modern humanity compared to the last. By now the sun was slowly rising over the peak. I glaced at my guards. They all remained stone face but I could tell that the sunlight was getting to them. "How are you fairing?" I asked.
"My Queen, the sun may cause a bit of annoyance, but we are able to continue."
I gave a slight nod, since I am queen and because of my bloodline I can't really can't feel the affects of the sun. "When you start feeling unable to do your duty then tell me." I said as we continued towards the town.
The smell of freashly baked bread made its way to us. I do not understand how humans enjoy such a thing. Especially eating it without anything else to add flavor. My face was expressionless compared to my guards who's faces hintd at disgust. As we walk following horrific scent of bread the town began awaken. The sun hanged ove the town as if waiting for the only vampires in town to make a mistake and shed their cloaks. As we continue on towards the town square, children began to race around and began a mortals game called... called... what was it? I thought. Oh right it was called 'Tag.' The streets busied with lie as humans were getting ready for the day. With each smiling person I could tell that my guards vampire sprit was on the edge. Two of my guards began to walk at a faster pce to get ahead of me on my left and right.
"Excuse me." said a young figure that suddenly ran past me. They ended Bumping into my shoulder. Don't make scene, I thought to my guards. They let person pass. After they had left, one of my guards brought me my wallet. "Milady" he said. "Thank you, I said as I took it.
