Chapter 1

    Hi my name is Ethan and I'm 16 years old. I live with my father (Jake) and my younger brother (Percy), who was only 7 years old. Our mom died when I was only 10 and Percy was 2 so he doesn't Remember her death like I do.

~flashback~

I was awoken by a loud bang that was followed with shouts, I could hear my dad yelling and my mom crying.

I got out of  my bed slowly and opened up my bedroom door as quietly as I could. I first went to Percy's room to check on him, when I saw that he was still asleep I sighed in relief and closed his door.

I tiptoed down the stairs and I could hear the shouting getting louder and louder, I peeked into the living room and what I saw changed my life forever.

~End of flashback~

My thoughts were interrupted by my dad banging on my door and telling me to get my lazy fat ass up and go make him breakfast. I took a quick shower and put on a pair of shorts with a long sleeved shirt to cover up my multople scars.  I rushed down the stairs almost tripping, before I went into the kitchen to make the same breakfast I had always made.  'Fried fat'  that's what I considered it.

After I was done making breakfast I put three plates down and put the food on them, I ran up the stairs to go wake up my little brother. I knocked on his door and waited for him to tell me to come in, when I didn't hear a response. I opened his door and saw him wrapped up in his blanket sleeping.

I walked over to his bed and shook him awake. I took the blanket off of him and shook him some more, Percy rolled over and grumbled something under his breath then went back to sleep.

"Percy wake up it's time to eat breakfast." I said to him.

"Just 5 more minutes please." Percy said.

"Ok fine then." I said to Percy, I left his room and went into the bathroom to fill up a cup with water and went back into his room. I stood over him with the cup and I threw the water in his face, he sat up and started yelling at me till his face turned red.

I bent over laughing my ass off and wiping the tears off of my face from laughing to much, Percy glared up at me and yelled at me in a whining voice:

"What did you do that for?!"

"I told you to get your but up." I replied back to his question.

"Ok, ok I'm up, now carry me downstairs!" Percy demanded.

I rolled my eyes but still picked up my cute little brother.  Percy's the only reason why I still live. If I died, I wouldn't want my dad to hurt him the same way he hurts me. I walked downstairs with my little brother on my hip and placed him in his seat, I ruffled his hair and sat down in my chair.

Me and Percy were laughing and joking around but we stopped talking when we heard loud footsteps coming down the stairs, I pulled Percy's chair closer to mine's and he held onto my arm tighty, we both watched quietly as our dad stepped in the kitchen.

I tensed up as our dad started walking closer to us but I relaxed slightly as he walked past us to go get a beer from the refrigerator, he turned around and looked at us and I tensed back up and held Percy tighter, he walked over to the table and grabbed his plate of food and left the kitchen, me and Percy waited till be heard our dad leave then we let go of each other and I let out a relieved breath.

Percy looked at me with tears in his eyes and he asked me:

"Why does daddy hate us?"

I pulled Percy into my lap and he snuggled closer to my chest and I explained to him that our dad doesn't hate us, he's just really sad. I hated lying to my cute innocent little brother but it was the best thing to do, Percy asked me a question that I would never answer truthfully;

"Why is he so sad?"

I ignored his question and picked him up and took him to his room to get him dressed for school, I placed him on his bed and took off his shirt I went over to his blue closet door and opened it. I turned towards him and asked him what he wanted to wear to school. He jumped up and down yelling "My batman shirt!" Over and over, I chuckled and got out his favorite batman shirt and tugged it over his head I then tugged down his pants and underwear and got out some batman undies for him and a pair of black pants.

I put his clothes on him and told him to go brush his teeth while I get dressed, Percy jumped off his bed and ran into the bathroom. I went into my room and closed my door to get dressed and took out a pair of light blue skinny jeans and a light blue long sleeved shirt so no one would see the cuts I put on my arms, I know I'm a disappointment and I'm ashamed that I self harm but it feels so good when I need to get away from my homophobic bullies and my abusive dad, oh yeah and I forgot to say that I'm gay and I get bullied for it.

I put on my clothes and grabbed a dark blue beanie and I took out my dark blue converse shoes and put them on. I might have a bit of an ocd problem I just like to match what I'm wearing. I grabbed my phone and my door key and left out of my room and closed the door behind me, I checked the time on my phone and saw that I only had 20 minutes left to get me and my brother to school. I went into my bathroom and hurriedly brushed my teeth and washed my face, I ran out of my bathroom and down the stairs.

I saw Percy sitting on the couch watching TV and I grabbed our backpacks and grabbed his hand, and pulled him off the couch I helped him put on his shoes and I opened up the door and locked it behind us. Me and Percy started our 5 minute walk to Percy's school when we got there I bent down so I was eye to eye with Percy, we gave each other a hug and he kissed me on the lips and told me he loved me I smiled at him and told him I loved him to.

I stood up and watched him run over to his group of friends I turned around and started my walk to school as I reached hell, oh I mean school  I could see my bullies waiting for me at the entrance of Holland Oaks School, well wish me luck.
