Lunch with the enemy

Damien's POV
When Sebastian told me that I'd have to drag an angel down to hell to prove my loyalty to him, I really wasn't expecting her to turn up right in front of me and stare at me during maths.

Being the only demon who'd been to school his entire life, I've gotten to know the lives of all these petty humans and it only takes a quick peek in their minds to realise they're all worrying about the same mundane rubbish. Their essences are all a grey haze, with the occasional pink, red, and black, so when I saw a new girl in class today, I was blinded for the first time by a pure white essence.

And that's when her eyes met mine and my heavy heart sank straight down to hell. I knew she was the fallen angel Sebastian was talking about. The one who's soul I'd have to drag down in order to free my parents. The one I'd seen somewhere before...

She was watching me all lesson with an avid curiosity and I could already tell this wasn't going to be easy. As soon as the bell rang for lunch, I walked up to her and made conversation, I had to gain her trust and make her follow me willingly into hell.

So this is how I, Damien, born and raised in hell, ended up having lunch with an angel.

"What is this?" Asked Persephone trying to bite into a juice carton.

"Umm.., no. That's not how you do it." I said, while grabbing the juice box and piercing it with a straw, simultaneously trying not to burst into a laughing fit.

This angel was an actual idiot. I'd be surprised if it took me a week to cause her downfall. Then again, the way her bright hazel eyes filled with joy at the simplest things was really sickening to watch. It made my stomach lurch uncomfortably, though I didn't know why.

"Hey, are you ok?" She asked tentatively.

"Huh? Oh, of course I am!" I said defensively, mentally cursing myself for getting swept away.

"Good, cause you looked really sad just then. But don't you worry, cause whatever's troubling you now, I'll protect you from it." She winked while flashing me a ludicrous smile.

Oh God, I thought to myself. Does she really say this to every human she meets? Good thing she met me first, cause any human would've thought she was completely mad.

"I need to tell you something very important." Stated Persephone as she stood up to leave.
"I'll meet you outside that huge tree behind this building after your detainment has finished."

School, you mean, I wanted to correct her but I had bigger things to be worrying about. How was I going to make a plan to betray her when I'm so sure that I'm going to die. Seriously, my heart is going at a million miles an hour and I don't why. Surely she can't harm me as an angel because I am technically a human, right? Before I could protest, she skipped out of the canteen and was out of sight.

~3:30 PM~
"Damien!! I'm so glad you came!" Gushed Persephone as she jumped out of the tree she was sitting in.
"I was beginning to worry whether detainment was longer than I Calculated. But you're here now and that's what counts."

"So what did you want?" I asked, staring at my feet. During my history lesson, I had enough time to realise that eye contact was probably the way in which she was causing my heart to freak out. She must have some anti-sin spell on them or something.

"I want to tell you that I am your guardian angel. I know you won't believe me, but hear me out. You are in grave danger, a demonic presence is stalking you and it will not rest until it causes you great anguish. But do not fear because heaven has sent me to ensure that you are safe." She finished and scanned my face for a reaction.

Oh wow, way to be blunt. She really wasn't kidding around.
"Um, no I believe you. Actually I felt a really evil presence following me for the past week, so I'm not surprised that you're here to save me." I reassured her, ignoring the jolt in my heart at the lie.

"Oh good!" She said, visibly relaxing.
"I really didn't plan for what to do if you rejected me, so this is great. And... now that you know I'm an angel, could I please stay at your house..? I don't want to intrude on purpose, but you see it's my first time on earth and I really don't understand how things work, and If I stayed with you, I could protect you better..." She babbled quickly, before gazing at me with her innocent eyes.

"Ok fine, enough with the puppy eyes. You can stay with me."
Never have I regretted any words more. Where was I supposed to take her? I didn't live on earth. I only came up from hell  to carry out tasks or attend school to alleviate my boredom. It was time to call for Sebastian's favour...
