Have you ever been to a strange, new world?
One where you are one of a kind?
Always surrounded by strangers, people that you do not know.
When you are never alone,
Why is there always the feeling of loneliness?
Everything is different,
So many things to learn.
It’s not like back home,
Where everyone is known.
In this new world, you get funny looks,
Snickers and insults.
They look at you as if you are an alien,
Something to dissect and put in the books.
They never give you space and always seem to crowd you.
Ask you many questions,
About your dress,
Your faith
You
There are some that are truly curious, and others that want to harm you.
To ostracize, punish, and hurt,
Just because you’re being you.
So what do you do?
Do you give up your values?
Do you lose your identity?
Do you join the “norm”?
No....No...No!
Whenever they’re mean, cruel, or hurtful,
Remember who you are,
A servant of God.
If no one’s there for you,
Know that He’s always there.
You’re belief in yourself and in God is all that you will ever need.
And when they see your determination and firm resolve,
They will respect you, want to know you, and care for you.
Whenever you feel ready to give up,
Whether it’s because of sticks or stones.
Always remember
Believe in yourself, have faith in God,
And know that words can never hurt,
As long as you stay loyal and true to you.
