I have always had an obsession with Greek Mythology. For starters, my full name is Athena Davis, but people call me "Thena" for short. Considering my siblings and I were all adopted together, we know little of our past, and I want to know more. Our adoptive parents claim our birth parents abandoned us all at a post office 4 years ago, but why can't any of us remember who our original parents were?
As graduation approaches, I decided my senior project would be to find my real parents. After some research, I still found nothing. I took DNA tests, I looked through hospital records, and did blood tests in hopes of finding anything. In spite of my efforts, my DNA and blood tests were inconclusive, and puzzled doctors. They claim my siblings and I have a blood type that does not exist, and my DNA does not match any ethnicity in the world. Maybe I wasted my money, and got ripped off, but I refuse to stop searching.
My siblings decided to help me because they had nothing better to do with their lives, so we hired a private investigator to find out who left us at that post office years ago.
Suddenly, a knock at the door. That must be the detective.
"Hi Detective Brown, I'm Athena Davis, and these are my siblings, Poseidon and Hestia. But you can call us 'Thena,' 'Cy,' and 'Tia' for short."
"Greek names huh? Interesting. Are your parents mythology nerds or something?"
"We don't know, they abandoned us 4 years ago at a post office, and we have no recollection of them. It's like we all have amnesia. That's why you're here to help us figure this out."
"Alright, why don't we go to the post office and see what we can find."
We head down in his car, hopes high, but expectations low. As we get there, the detective talks with the manager that's been there for 10 years, to see if he remembers anything.
"By any chance, do you recall 3 kids being dropped off, with no memory and no parents, about 4 years ago?" says Detective Brown.
"Yeah ummmm, one day a while back, we were closing up and we noticed these kids were just standing outside for hours, looking confused, by themselves in the dark. The oldest one had a note in her hand, but we gave it to the police because it was in some kind of code. These kids were abandoned or something so we turned them in to the police, and they had absolutely no memory of their past, besides their names. They seemed to be educated academically, but mentally, they had no clue what was going on. So yeah, I remember." stated the manager.
"Interesting. Do you remember how they got there, or perhaps have any security footage from that day?"
"Oddly, when the police checked the footage, the feed cut off completely, and we could only see static."
"Thank you for your help. I guess we'll head down to the police station, and perhaps the orphanage to see what they know" said Detective Brown.
I honestly didn't remember anything from that day. I just remember waking up in the hospital with my siblings, and then going to the orphanage to be adopted by our current parents. The thing that baffled me the most was this mysterious note. Our parents had never mentioned this previously...What if I could decode it? Maybe it was the key to our past. I'm anxious to find out what it said.
"Cy, Tia, do you guys remember anything from that day? I know I've asked before, but maybe you remember now?"
"I don't know sis, I got one too many concussion, and I can only remember football plays, and tide patterns now. I honestly don't care if we don't find out, because clearly, they abandoned us, and don't want us, so why should we care about them. But what is this about a note?" Cy said.
"Maybe something happened to them that they couldn't take care of us. Maybe they didn't have enough money, but why would they leave us at a post office? And why don't any of us actually look alike if we're siblings? Whatever the case, don't get your hopes up. Maybe you should change your project." Tia stated.
"You're a dumbass, Tia. How could you not want to find out our past? It doesn't even make sense how it's possible for me not to remember 14 years of my life, have DNA that doesn't exist, and why they chose to abandon us, with so much as an encrypted note that explains nothing. Don't you guys feel like a part of you is missing?"
"Yeah, but whatever. Our parents now love us more than our real parents ever did. We'll help you find information if you want, but don't be such a bitch about it, Thena." said Cy.
"We're here." said Detective Brown.
