"You know twins associated with the sun and moon, Cy?" I asked.
"Okay, yeah. So you know how I play football, and I'm taking Hawaiian? Yeah, well one of my teammates is named 'Kalā,' and he happens to have a twin sister named 'Mahina.'" Cy replies.
"So?" I respond.
"So, in Hawaiian, 'kalā' means 'sun,' and 'Mahina' means 'moon.'"
"Omg, do you have his number? Tell him to come over right now!" I say excitedly.
"No, Thena. The note told us we have to meet them at the beach. I feel like if we tamper with our fates, and try to make this happen quicker, something bad might happen." Tia says.
"Makes sense. But why do we have to go to the beach to meet with them? I'm assuming they know how to find another Pure or something, so why can't we just ask them straight up?" I ask.
"It's best we just stick to what the note says. Hopefully, they got a note too, and will be at the beach tomorrow if we're lucky. If not, then we know the note was fake." Tia responds.
"Alright well, we should probably eat dinner, shower, and go to sleep early if we're going to the beach. What time do you guys wanna leave tomorrow?" I say.
"6. The waves will be super big in the morning, so let's leave really early." Cy responds.
As we anxiously eat dinner and shower, I wonder if we should tell our parents about this. Maybe they will think the note is fake, and not want us to go. We will probably have to miss school for this quest, considering it seems to be an urgent matter, so will our parents even let us skip school to possibly risk our lives on an adventure to save our real parents? I don't know what would be more disappointing, if they don't even let us try, or if we do try, and we aren't able to even meet our real parents...I guess it's best to ask Cy and Tia first about what we should do.
"Cy, Tia!" I yell.
"Yeah?"
"I gotta talk to you guys."
Cy and Tia meet me in my room.
"What's up, sis?" Cy asks.
"Should we tell mom and dad?" I respond.
"About what?" says Cy.
"About the note, dumbass. They gave us permission to go to the beach, but what if they don't let us go on this 'quest?' Like we'd probably miss school right?"
"Oh man, I hadn't even thought about that. You know how mom is, she'll probably think it's fake...she always seems so adamant about us not looking too much into our background because she doesn't want us to be disappointed...but I don't wanna be sneaky, so I say we just tell them now." Tia says.
We grab the note, and reluctantly walk downstairs to the kitchen to find our parents washing the dishes.
"Mom, Dad, can we talk to you?" I say hesitantly.
"Of course you can." replies Mom. "Is something wrong?"
"Well you know how I hired a private investigator to help me with my project? Well he found a note at the police station from the night that we first arrived. Tia was able to translate it, and well, here's the translated version."
Our parents slowly read the translation with a worried look on their faces.
"Is this why you asked to go to the beach tomorrow?" asks Dad.
"Yeah...we were thinking it could've been fake, but we wanted to go anyways. I figured out that the 'sun' and 'moon' they were referring to was most likely my friends,
Kalā and Mahina." Cy said.
"I was worried you wouldn't let us go on this quest, because you probably won't let us skip school, and you'd probably think it was fake. But please Mom and Dad, you guys know more than anyone how badly I want to meet my real parents. You guys are probably skeptical that we are the children of Greek gods and goddesses, but what if it's true? Meeting our real parents would be worth more than any grade." I add.
My mom sighs, and looks at my dad, nervous.
"We were worried this day would come. We haven't been completely honest with you guys." my dad says.
"What do you mean?" asks Cy.
"Well, we knew you guys were Pures, but we didn't tell you because it was too dangerous. We knew eventually this day would come that you were needed, but we didn't expect it to be so soon. You have our permission to go on this quest, but please be safe, and work together."
"Wait a minute, are you guys normal people, or are you also Pure?" asks Tia.
"Your father and I are not Pure. Each god and goddess only has one Pure child, and the rest are semi-pure. I happen to be the semi-pure child of Athena, and your father, Poseidon." Mom replies.
"Do you guys have powers also?" I ask.
"Yes, but definitely not as strong as your powers. Our powers are only half as strong as yours, at best. Unfortunately, because you guys are stronger than us, we cannot train you to use your powers. It must be discovered on your own."
"I don't understand how it's possible for me to be alive." Tia says. "Hestia is a virgin, so how am I alive?"
"Well, around 15 years ago, a prophecy was foretold by the Oracle of Olympus, warning the gods of treachery in the near future. After some deliberation, the gods and goddesses decided to cut off one of their fingers, which would later develop into their offspring. This offspring would have pure, godly DNA, hence your names. Your parents raised and trained you, until one day, they were kidnapped by Eros and Psyche. For about 5 years now, your parents have been in their clutches, and they need their children's help." responds Dad.
"Can you come with us?" I ask.
"Unfortunately no. The prophecy forebode that only the Pure can stop Eros and Psyche, so joining you on your quest would be tampering with fate. Besides, once you all get together, the Pures will be unstoppable. So remember, work together, and use your skills collaboratively. We believe in you. Go to bed early guys, you'll need the rest." says Dad.
We all hug. Excited and anxious, we all walk upstairs to our room and prepare for sleep. I still have so many questions about our past. Who is Eros and Psyche? How we will unlock our powers? What if we can't save our parents? Questions continue to race through my mind until I eventually doze off...
