Aiden's POV
"Mother! Please, can I drive? I never get to." I begged her once we had all the boxes stuffed in the trunk of our minivan.
"No, Aiden. You know I don't like you driving long distances." My mother shut the trunk of the van and walked towards the driver's door.
Upset with her answer, I followed her around the van with pleading eyes. "Please! Please! Pleaaaassssse!"
"Aiden! Enough, you've barely turned seventeen." She sighed and ran her bony fingers through her hair.
"I know mother. Still, I'm a great driver." I huffed and crossed my arms over my chest, pouting like a child.
"No means no, Aiden. I am the adult here." She tried to sound serious but chuckled slightly towards the end of her sentence.
I cannot believe she pulled the 'I am the adult here' card again. Sometimes I really wish that I could fake my death and run away down the Thames river with a black girl named Hannah. Then I remember I don't even live close to the river or know a black girl named Hannah.
She opened the door to our bluish minivan and stepped into the driver's seat. It was an older model car, like most minivans, with faded blue paint and rusty metal. The breaks are really bad too, screeching every time my mother taps the pedal.
Unfortunately, we needed a minivan to carry all the boxes we had because my mother usually packed a lot. There wasn't much to pack this time though. The pile was getting smaller and smaller with each move we made .
I groaned and walked around the van back towards the passenger side. As I passed the backseat window, Tilly poked her head out licked my arm. Gross. I chuckled and tickled her under her neck. I wiped my arm on my plain T-shirt. When I reached the passenger side, I opened up the door and glanced into our messy van.
When my mother didn't budge or say anything, I sighed in defeat. I reluctantly stepped in and sat down on the dirty carpeted seat. We really need to clean this van, but i would end up doing all the work.
"Can we get some McDonald's?" I asked hopefully. Now that I think about it, I probably am the part of the reason why the car is so messy.
My stomach growled instantly and my face began to burn with embarrassment. The sudden craving to eat some delicious salty fries came to me. I just had to mention the worst fast food place to eat at.
"Sure." My mother sighed dramatically before turning her head and pulling out of the driveway.
This was going to be a long drive.

"What's the town called again?" I asked mindlessly, stuffing a few fries in my mouth at a time.
Oh, the salty goodness.
I licked my fingers and looked up towards my mother for an answer. She stared ahead of her, keeping her eyes on the road. Her lips were pursed together which made me all the more curious. I wish she would have let me drive.
