Chapter 1

She sat down remembering as she did every day, well, whatever her memory decided to show her.

She was very little, 7, making supper for her family. She loved to cook, and she first took an interest in it about a year ago while she was watching her mum make supper. She watched carefully for that whole year, her mum teaching her everything a she could do without it being too dangerous for her.

On that evening, when she called everyone to the table, all of her siblings came in. They were all older than her. First Lea, then Ray and Jase. When Ray and Jase came in though, they were having their usual staring contest.

"You blinked!" exclaimed Ray in triumph.

Jase muttered,"Whatever." then huffed over to the table, sitting down in his usual spot as Sasha was dishing up.

Then her mum and dad came in, smiling sweetly at Sasha.

"Thank you sweetie, for making dinner again. You're the best!" Her dad exclaimed, picking her up and spinning her around as she giggled.

"It's okay, I love to cook anyway!" she said.

"What did that have to do with anything!?" Sasha asked the trees irritatedly. She sighed, calming herself, then stood up and started walking, away from her memories to listen to the soothing thoughts of the trees.

                                    --------------------------------------------------------------------------

"But mom, I don't want to! Isaha is weird, and creepy! AND a dork! I don't want to be betrothed to that guy! I mean, I didn't even know betrothed existed any more!!!", exclaimed Skyler, her short golden curls waving side to side frantically.

"But sweetheart, you haven't even bothered to try and get to know him!"

"I know enough about him to say I don't like him!!!"

"Well then, I guess you'll have too, because we signed a contract about it when you were two. So, there is nothing you can do about it now." mum says smugly.

You see, my mums the kind of person that when she gets an idea, she never lets it go. I guess I inherited that from her. I am NOT going to marry that guy!

"No! I will not!" I scream in anger, running out the door onto our cloud. I see Isaha walking over, on a straight course to our front door. Seeing him just makes me run faster, and by now, i'm only running on adrenaline.

Isaha lives two clouds down from us, so he comes by and visits us every once in awhile, and it's always awkward.

What am I going to do now? Maybe I should go back and hide for the next 3 years, then i'll be 18 and the contract will be broken 5 days after my birthday, if i'm not married to him by then, or I could-

"AHHHHH!" she screamed, realizing she had run out of cloud to run on, then she was falling.

Skyler could feel the wind whipping past her, could see the ground getting closer and closer. Trying to swallow her panic, she tried to think of what Waldon had taught her about controlling the wind, but she couldn't think straight.

Crap, i'm going to die right here and right now. By falling off of my own cloud...that's just sad. Thrusting her hands out in front of her, she created a shield of air and slowed herself down a little, but could tell it wasn't strong enough when she hit the ground, eyes tightly closed. She opened her eyes a little bit, surprised to still be alive. Weird, I thought the ground was brown, not blue... I guess my textbooks were wrong!

"Could you please get off of me!" A small strangled voice said. Oh, i've landed on a person!

"I'm so sorry! Are you okay?"

"It's alright, and i'll be fine. Where in the world did you come from?!" The girl with the blue dress asks, getting up slowly.

"Well, I come from a cloud. Up there" pointing up she continues," is my home. I was running and I ran out of cloud. I'm sorry about that... my name is Skyler, what is yours?" I ask, sticking my hand out.

"My name is Sasha, nice to meet you Skyler." Sasha says, bowing to her instead of shaking her hand.

Wow, and I thought the word "betrothed" was old fashioned! Sasha was very pretty though, with a light blue dress that had white lace swirls going around the waist and neck, and low sleeves that drooped down to her knees, which made her brown hair and eyes stand out shockingly.

"Well, do you need a place to stay? 'Cause you can always come to my cabin. But since it's so late, we will have to camp here, in the woods."

And not knowing what else to do, reply," yea sure that would be great!". Then we head off.

After we walk for a little bit, my feet start getting sore. I glance down at her feet and notice that she isn't wearing any shoes.  How in the WORLD does she stand that! With all of those thorns and weeds, it should hurt to not have shoes on!  She herself had shoes on, and the needles were pricking THROUGH them!

"We can stay here" she announces, then plops down after gathering some wood to start a fire.

" So, if you don't mind me asking, how did you fall so slow? I mean, from that high you should've been going fast enough to break mine AND your bones." Sasha inquires, glancing at her for a second, then looking back to her fire.

"Okay, this is going to sound weird, but I have...wind powers."

"Oh, it's fine. I think it's great! I mean, I have powers too."

"Really? You have wind powers too? I mean, I havn't ever seen you up in the clouds." That's weird, if she has powers then why is she on the ground? She has brown hair, and i've only seen blond hair and blue eyes at home.

"Oh, I don't have wind powers, I can talk to the trees and the earth." Well, that would explain it.
