"Mum, I don't like being me" he said to his mum, sitting on the kitchen cabinet with a glass of milk in his hand. He was forming a white mustache around his mouth, making him look cute, although he was already cute.
His mum frowned at him, wiping away his white milk mustache around his mouth, "Now, why do you think that?" she asked him, giving him a small kiss on his forehead.
He sighed, sulking his shoulders down, with a frown on his mouth. This poor, boy's mum had no idea what her son was going through, or what thoughts were going through that small head of his.
"Because I'm different to everyone else" he whined, sulkly, curling his lips out and putting a dark frown on his eyebrows, "They all say I'm a weirdo"
Maura stared at the little boy who was sitting hopelessly in front of her, eyes wide, thinking through what her son had just said. She always thought there was something wrong about her baby, but she thought he was just having one of his moments, and shrugged it off. If only she knew.
"Who on earth would call you a weirdo?" she smiled, playing with the dark brown hair of his. He liked his mum playing with his hair; it felt relaxing, "And why do you think you're different, baby? You've got a heart and a skeleton, like everyone else"
He pouted, before looking down at his lap, tears forming in his blue eyes, "It makes me sad, mummy, when they call me mean names" he cried, pulling his knees up to his chest, and crying into them, "It makes me very upset, mummy, and I don't ever want to cry infront of them, because I don't want to be a big baby"
His mum pulled her sobbing son into her chest, rocking him slightly, "Shhh, baby. Crying makes it all better" she said, "and don't listen to those horrid people! none of the words they say is true"
He froze, pulling away from her, and giving her a glare, "Oh, but it is true, mum, every single word is true" he called out, wiping away the reminders of the tears.
His mum, once again, frowned, before speaking, "What do you mean, 'every single word is true'"? she quoted him, "What do you mean, baby?"
He sighed, ready to tell him mum his story. He jumped down from the cabinet, and sat down on one of the chairs around the table, "Mummy, do you remember when I saw the two men kissing?" he asked his mum.
She nodded.
"And you said that they had a different love?" he continued, keeping his eyes on his mum.
She nodded, once again, "Yes, I remember. What's going on, baby" she whispered, fear in her eyes.
He swallowed, before looking back up to her, "Well, mum, I think I have a different love, as well" he whispered, before slumping down in his seat, as if he though his mum was ashamed of him for being different to other boys.
"D-d-different love?" she stammered, feeling her eyes starting to water, "baby, why didn't you tell me? i would of helped you" she confirmed, giving him a tight hug.
He shrugged, once she had pulled away, before speaking, "I thought you would be ashamed of me" he said, "Because I'm different"
She shook her head, "no no no, of course not, baby. I will never be ashamed of you!" she reassured him, wiping away the tears around her eyes, "I will never feel ashamed of you, just because you love someone the same of you!"
"But, mummy. Why do all the boys at my school make fun of me? Most certainty, the boy with the brown curly hair"
