-Three months later-
‘For Nature’s sake, I said the size of a bluebell! Not a car!’
‘Oh shit.’
Summer had arrived and released its wave of warmth upon earth. Flower’s bloomed, fruits ripened and life thrived. It was a busy season for the economic industry; around every corner there were sales, bargaining and new summer releases. Children were overjoyed with the long summer holidays, the skies were constantly filled with planes departing and returning. As for nature, a blanket of humidity settled on the forests. Animals, insects, creatures were all out scurrying for food; preparing for the long winter that would come.
And there in the middle of a particular beautiful forest clearing stood a daffodil.
A daffodil the size of a car.
‘Hey, at least its only a daffodil.’ A voice jokingly said.
‘Ivy.’
‘Sorry.’
When one looked at Ivy, they wouldn’t notice any significant changes. But if you were to peer closer, you could see subtle but definite changes; a determined flame in her eyes, the sheer glow on her face, the look of concentration and maturity that were engraved in her features and the confident way she held herself.
Mother Nature had grown.
‘Shrink this thing so that I can get out of here.’ Another voice grumbled.
Ivy grinned as she used her mind to press upon the daffodil’s life size. The flower whined in protest, clearly enjoying the rare moment.
‘Hush.’ Ivy coaxed. ‘Listen to mother.’
The flower sighed, but obeyed. In a flash, it returned to its normal size. A figure next to it stumbled to his feet, muttering in annoyance.
‘Cheer up Kai.’ Ivy smiled as she gave him a playful punch. ‘I personally think you look rather smashing with those daffodil seeds in your hair. Exquisite color combination.’
‘I didn’t ask for your opinion.’ He groused brushing off any remaining petals. Ivy stared at him. ‘What?’ He snapped.
She stifled a laugh, biting her lip.
‘You’re not laughing at meare you?’ Kai demanded.
She shook her head. One corner of her mouth curled up.
‘Why you little-’ Kai advanced towards her. ‘You are so dead.’
Ivy gave in as laughter spilled from her lips, she collapsed on the soft soil, clutching her stomach as her abs contracted. Kai lunged for her, playfully engaging her in a light tackle as they rolled over the grass.
Laughter.
Happiness.
Genuine happiness.
Ivy never thought she’d see the day come.
‘This... can’t last can it?’ Ivy panted as she finally caught Kai in a headlock.
‘Don’t really play along with the vague show.’ Kai groaned as he struggled under her tight grip.
‘Everything’s too quiet.’ Ivy muttered, releasing her grip and flopping on her back.
‘Nowyou’re complaining everything’s too quiet?’
‘That’s not what I meant.’
A brief lapse of silence.
‘Ah I see.’ Kai shifted so that he was studying her. ‘You think it's time.’
Ivy turned and returned his gaze. ‘Don’t you? Its been three months.’
‘I think the real question is, are you ready?’ He gazed steadily at her with his ever-black eyes. ‘Are you ready to to give up your old life? To live in a world of secrecy which may destroy you?’
‘Its what my parents would’ve wanted me to do. I have all this power and the chance to make the world right. I can’t just turn that down. Plus...’ she gave him a sad smile, ‘it’s fate. Its not like you can take Mother Nature out of me.’
‘No.’ He agreed as he got up. ‘Get ready then. The clans await.’
