"Hannah"

One more sweet embarassing moment to add to an ever growing list. I just fell on my ass right at the school hallway after colliding with a human wall named Sebastian Hart. At least it felt like that. This boy wasn't huge as quarterbacks usually are. He is ridiculously tall and has a lean body. From what I can tell all hard as a brick muscle. Me, with my petite frame didn't stand a chance.

Sebastian Hart is the guy all the other guys try to emulate and all the girls try to attract. They flirt and giggle with him like everything he said was the funniest thing ever said. Sebastian didn't even need to try. People just flock to him. He doesn't have just the looks, the hot body, money and athletic skills. He also has charisma. An indefinable quality to him that attracts all kinds of people. He even is a good student. He embodies perfection. Well, thank God I don't believe in perfection or I might have been starstruck right now. Ok. Maybe I was a little bit.

He was by far the best looking thing I ever collided with. I collide a lot. Once I collided with a post. On other occasion I also collided with a postman. But we are straying here.

Seconds or minutes I can't tell after the event, Debbie Gibbs ran with a worried look on her sweet cheerleader face. If Sebastian Hart was Northwood High School's ideal of male perfection, Debbie Gibbs was the female version of that. Long wavy blond hair à la Gisele and the skinny body and long legs to match. She also had baby blue eyes and pouty pink lips.

When she approached us, for a brief moment I thought she would help me out, give me a hand or something like that, but then...

"Oh!Sebastian! Are you alright?"

"I'm fine". That's Sebastian's only answer.

Yeah girl, he looks real bad. He is standing there like nothing happened and I'm the one with the ass, really big ass, on the floor. This shouldn't come as a surprise. Debbie and Sebastian have been an on/off couple as far as I can remember and I'm studying with them since seventh grade. Not that they remember.

Deb and Seb. I already picture them with two kids living in a little picket fence house as in a TV commercial and working as realtors. With one of those signs, where they are wearing similar tacky suits, back to back and showing all the teeth in their mouths.

Ok. No one will help me. So I get up, grab my backpack and fly from the scene. Walking fast through the hallway I finally found Cassie and Leo.

"Wow, Murphy! That's the way to make an entrance. You're such a diva".

"Aw, shut up Leo".

"I can't believe you headbumped Sebastian" Cassie tells me with a I-don't-believe-what-just-happened look.

"It's more like he .... chestbumped me. Really, the guy is built like a wall. I think I'll have to do a CT Scan and check my brain for injuries".

"Why you weren't in the bus today? Did you set your kitchen on fire again?" Leo will never forget the "event" of 2014. The bonfire I accidentally started in my kitchen during the holidays while I was trying to have french toast. Cause I felt fancy like that.

"No. Just the usual".

"Spilled milk?" Cassie says and I can hear the Again? through her voice.

"Yes". I say shyly. What can I do? I'm clumsy and I know it. Except when I dance. I don't know why, but when I dance everything feels right.

"How are you going to face Sebastian in English Lit after that?" Cassie asks me.

"As I do every single day". It's my answer.

"It's not like he even knows her name". Leo chuckles a little. Wow, thanks Leo. With friends like these... The worst part is he is probably right.

"He is right". I start making funny faces and acting like I'm in a melodrama batting my eyelashes when playing Deb and making a Superman stance when playing Sebastian. "Precious Sebastian is probably dusting cereal crumbs off his ridiculously expensive clothes and being comforted by his lovely cheerleader girlfriend Debbie. She is singing his praises and after that they will share a passsssionate kiss in front of all school like in a romantic movie. Uniting their forces, they will live through the torment of having face Murphy and her big head".

We laughed hard. We have been best friends since seventh grade. They have seen me through my most embarassing moments, in the sweet and the sour. They make fun of me for being Murphy, but they are my champions. They will fight anyone for me. As I would fight for them. The three musketeers. "All for one and one for all. United we stand, divided we fall". We weren't outcasts, we were more like invisible. Our own brand of wallflowers. I don't care. We just had fun.

"Come on! We will be late". Leo reminds while gesturing for me and Cassie to get in.

We go to our seats. I start getting everything I need for class, including the book we are reading right now, 'Jane Eyre'. I already had read it. I loved this story. Jane is down on her luck (I can relate to that), but she keeps going and fighting. That's my girl. That's the spirit. It's a little too dramatic, but I have to admit that I like my fiction like that.  With spunky heroines and passionate brave heroes. The dreamy material which unfortunately only exists in novels.

When I take my eyes off the cover of my book I see Sebastian blatantly staring at me with his kinda golden kinda light brown eyes . He was one row to my right running his fingers through his dirty blond hair. Come on, buddy. It was just a minor accident. Get over! Ask Debbie to lick your wounds she will be more than happy.

I try to avert his gaze looking in Cassie's direction. She makes a gesture with her hands that clearly says "What is going on?"

I mouth to her "I don't know".

He can't be angry at me, right? I know technically the "collision" was my fault since I wasn't looking where I was going, but holding a grudge was a little bit too much. I glanced his way again. Crap! He was still looking at me. I felt a shiver down on my spine.

Concentrate in class, Hannah! Today Mr. Sparks will give us our assignment for the semester. I'm hoping to be paired with Cassie or Leo, if it's a group work even better. Maybe the three of us can work together.

"Good morning, class".

"Good morning, Mr. Sparks".

"As you already know, today you will have your assignment about 'Jane Eyre'. I hope you all have read the book by now and not just watched some movie. It will be a presentation about the book. Feel free to be creative with it, you know? Each one of you will have a partner..."

Mr. Sparks went on explaining about the presentation and my mind started to wander. I thought about what time I needed to get to the diner today. I work there with my mom. She worked full time while I only worked part-time because of school obviously. I still needed to work a lot to save money for college. Plus, I need to stretch some of my free time to my extracurriculars. Those things look really good on college applications.

I work for the school's newspaper as a photographer. It's a hobby of mine. I really like taking pictures. I feel like I can capture a moment and make it magical with the right light and angle. Making ordinary things become extraordinary and showing the singularity and beauty of every day scenes and people.

Most of the time I just took pictures of school events, especially football practice and matches. Cheerleading squad. Which means that if the debate team doesn't win the state championship this year, The Eagle (our school's gazette) would be nothing but the yearbook of Debbie, Sebastian and their lookalikes.

"Miss Connors and Mr. Pratt.... Miss Andrews and Mr. Giordano". Oh, Cassie and Leo were partners for this project. Please dear God, I'm a good girl. I haven't been to church, but I'm planning to. Don't pair me with Justin. He is weird and keeps staring at my boobs. Please don't.

"... Miss Elliott and Mr. Hart..." What?! Sebastian and me?! Can't I catch a break?

I turn just in time to see the same amused smirk on his face.
