Eury Porter’s POV

Why is she asking so many questions? I hope she doesn’t suspect anything… she couldn’t know or could she…. I ate my lunch in silence, trying to analyze the situation and find possible solutions. I looked down at the table.

“Eury, you okay?” Fern asked, noticing my silence.. I nodded frantically, making it less believable, but she quickly changed the subject for less awkwardness. I silently ate and responded with short answers whenever they tried to reel me into theconversation.

Lunch ended and I stood up, ready to leave and go to P.E. I felt a tug on my arm, I turned and was face to face with Fern.

“Oh hey, Fern.” I greeted.

“I’m here to listen if you need to talk.” She said with a serious face. Oh my god,she looks so cute..

“O-of course, I know.” I said. She locked her arm with mine and walked with me to P.E.

We entered the locker room and sat down on a bench since no one had their gym clothes. The Coach took roll call and then sent us out into the gym. It was a free day, so Fern and another classmate played badminton without the net.

I sat on the ground since all the bleachers were pushed in and watched Fern and the classmate pass the birdie to each other with the rackets. I smiled to myself, feeling a warm, fuzzy feeling.

“Oh no,” I heard Fern say. I looked up and noticed that their birdie got stuck at the top of the 10-15 foot bleachers stacked and pushed in except for the top two.

“I’ll get it!” I said, determined to impress Fern. I got up and rushed to where the stairs would be, pushing myself up between the cracks of each stair. I pulled myself up onto the top and grabbed the birdie, tossing it down to her.

“Thanks, Eury!” She exclaimed, catching it.

“No problem!” I exclaimed. I got ready to get down, but then I looked down. Ah...that is rather far down… I froze and just stared at the bottom, then moved back. Fern didn’t notice, thankfully, since she was playing badminton with her friend.

I looked down and kept trying to the get the courage to go down, and eventually I got into position and stuck my foot in a crack, getting ready to go down, but then the second step I missed and lost my footing, now I was just dangling there and clinging desperately, trying not to fall.

I felt something warm hug me from behind that made me feel safe and comfortable. It was Fern, she pulled me off and set me down on the ground. Oh my god, she probably thinks you’re a baby now.

“Uhh Thanks..” I said, awkwardly. She nodded in response and continued to play. Ugh way to go, at this rate, she’ll never like you.

I sat down on the floor, a mess of embarrassment and zoned out.

I left finally, school was dismissed and I had a “date” with Alex. I met with him at the parking lot and We held hands, walking to a nearby arcade. Summer ran up to us and Alex stopped holding my hand and started to talk to her. Alex...you big goof…

He ended up ditching me and going to the library with Summer. I guess I can play a video game at home… I dreaded the word home. I sighed in annoyance and started walking. I felt someone practically hug-tackle me, I almost tripped, but caught myself.

“Hey Fern…” I said, annoyed. Ah jeez, it sounds like I’m mad at her. She stopped and made me face her.

“What’s wrong?” She asked.

“Nothing...I’m tired…” I mumbled, lying, which she believed. I felt myself get lifted up. Wait what is happening… Fern had put me on her shoulders. I turned red and clinged tightly to her, making sure I don’t fall off her shoulders.

“You don’t have to do this, you know..” I stammered.

“It’s okay, I can handle some light additional weight.” She said. I don’t know if I should be offended by that or not.

“Tell where to go.” She said. Ah jeez...she doesn’t know that I’m….rich… I cringed at the word. I gave her the directions and she walked there, carrying me.

When we arrived, I got off her, she stared, awed at my gigantic house.

“Woah, we should host our “first week going back to school” get-together here!” She said, beaming with happiness. Agh...how can I say no to that face..  I nodded.

“My parents will be cool with that.” I said. They will...but they still think I’m dating Alex and they’re gonna do anything to put a moment between us…oh well..it’s worth it..

“Nice, it’s gonna be so fun!” She said, happily, I smiled, feeling the same warm feelings I’d had for so long.
