Alex was in the passenger seat of Donny’s car. The two of them had had a huge argument a couple days ago and they hadn’t completely made up yet.
“How much longer?” Alex asked.
“Just a couple more minutes.” Donny said. Summer,Rose, and Fern sat awkwardly in the back, talking quietly amongst themselves.
“I’m sorry,” Alex said quietly so only Donny could hear him. Donny ignored him.
“Oh look, we’re here!” Fern exclaimed. Donny parked in the driveway and turned off the car. We all got out and were awed at the outside.
“Hey, you guys go. We’ll catch up.” Alex said, his hand on Donny’s shoulder.
Fern nodded and walked up to the door. There was a speaker attached with the doorbell and a camera. She rang the doorbell. Summer and Rose gave each other a look and ran up to the other girl.
“Yes?” Someone answered through the speaker.
“Hey Eury, it’s me Fern.” Fern said.
“Miss Porter, your friends have arrived, would you like me to let them in?” The voice asked. They heard some footsteps through the speaker.
“Yeah..okay..” Eury mumbled.
The door clicked and Fern opened it, stepping into the gigantic house. Summer and Rose followed her, looking inside.
Alex and Donny were still at the car. “We need to talk.” Alex said.
“About what?” Donny asked casually, as though he didn’t care.
“About Eury.” Alex answered. A muscle in his jaw twitched as it always did when he was mad.
“What about her?” Donny said. “She’s your so-called girlfriend.”
“You know very well that this is for the sake of not being the queers of the school!” Alex exclaimed.
“No, I didn’t know! Maybe you could’ve actually told me you had a girlfriend, too!” Donny snapped. “Do you have some more girlfriends that I don’t know about?! How the hell am I supposed to trust you when you don’t tell me about something that apparently the whole school knows?!!”
“Because if the school knew I was dating a guy, I’d never be able to show my face there without being bullied or harassed!” Alex exclaimed, defensively.
“Everyone knows I’m gay!! You wanna know what happens to me!! Absolutely nothing!! I’m perfectly safe!!” Donny raised his voice.
“I’M NOT YOU!” Alex yelled. “DON’T ASSUME THAT EVERYONE CAN DO THE THINGS THAT YOU DO!! YOU’RE A FUCKING MODEL AT 18! GOD, YOU ARE SUCH A PRIVILEGED NARCISSIST SOMETIMES!”
Donny’s voice was low and deadly, “I’m the privileged narcissist? You’re the one with the perfect family. You’re the one who has the perfect house. You’re the one who has the perfect girlfriend. Then another relationship just on the side. You’re the one with the perfect life. Then there’s me. My parents abandoned me when I was 5 because I was too much of a burden. I was taken from foster home to foster home where most of the families hit me every fucking day. I struggled to get where I am right now. Whos’ the privileged one? Me or you?”
