When the war started, nuclear weapons were the only weapons used. There was no warning that nuclear weapons was an option. It was just those. No other option.
My parents died when I was eight. We were in the bomb house, that was built for this very reason. One day the bombs kept coming. Destroying everything we owned. Then they suddenly stopped. My parents went out to see, they closed the door with a sense of urgency. We heard a big bang, and never saw them again.
They left me with my five year old twin brothers, John and Michael. It's hard to tell five year olds that mommy and daddy are gone and never coming back, when you, as an eight year old, didn't understand it. I had to stay strong for my brothers. I had to be mother and father to them. That's a lot of responsibility for a child.
Long story short, I had no childhood. And I will always hate my patents for leaving me to parent two toddlers.
