•Chapter Five•
"Why were gone for so long?" That was the first thing my mum said to me when I got into the house.
"Hello to you too, mum." I hung my coat up on the coat hanger.
"I'm not joking Malaycia." She sent me a scowl.
"Luke took me to the fair and the ride we went on broke down....it didn't work until early in the morning." I explained, taking a seat next to her on the couch.
"Okay." She nodded her head, getting up and walking into the kitchen to make dinner. "So is Brooks your boyfriend now?"
"Yeah." I shrugged, getting a water from the fridge.
"So...just like in all those love stories about best friends. You guys were best friends for a long time, you guys were inseparable, and now...here you are, dating Brooks."
"I guess." I took another swig from my water, then placing the cap on and putting it in the fridge.
"Do you want to invite him over for dinner?" I felt uneasy. My mum knows Brooks, but there's just that spec of over protectiveness in there that she'll defiantly give to Brooks.
"Umm...sure." I suggested. What could possibly go wrong.
"Good, ring him up." She pointed to the house phone.
"Okay..." I went over to the house phone, picking it up and looking at it. "Where's the buttons?" I asked, turning the phone around.
"Why don't you look on the box." My mum suggested, rolling her eyes and muttering something under her breath which I didn't get.
"Oh." I dialed Luke's number and waited for him to answer.
"Hello?" He questioned into the phone.
"Hey Luke, it's Malaycia." I smiled at his voice.
"Oh, hey." I could hear the excitement in his voice, even though he was trying to play it off cool.
"My mum wanted to know if you would like to come over for dinner tonight." Part of me hoped that he would say yes and another part of me though otherwise.
"Sure." He said after a moment of silence.
"Okay, see you at 8:00." I hung up, placing the phone into place.
"So I'm guessing he said yes from your blushed cheeks and huge smile." My mum said in a sin voice.
"Yes he did." I sighed. "And please, mum, be yourself. Just because he's my boyfriend now doesn't mean that he's different."
"Okay." She looked at me and then went back to her cooking.
I just hope everything goes right.
----------------------------------------------------
"Luke, I'm glad to see you again." My mum gave him a warm and welcoming hug once he was in the kitchen.
"Nice to see you too." Luke hugged her back.
"Okay mom...he's mine so hands off." I warned, motioning for Luke to sit next to me.
"Shut-up Malaycia." My mum gave me a playful glare.
"So, mum, what's for dinner?" I asked her, not taking my eyes off Luke.
"Umm....the usual." My mum shrugged, placing our dinner in front of us out of nowhere.
"Thanks." Luke and I said in unison.
"No problem guys." My mum smiled at us. "Can I get you anything to drink?"
"Coke." Luke and I, once again, said in unison.
"Okay." She walked away and I let out a breath.
"Is everything alright?" Luke looked at me, worriedly.
"Yes, I just want this night perfect." I sighed.
"It's going to be amazing, okay?" Luke rubbed my back, calming me down.
"Okay." My mom came back with our cokes, putting them down in front of us. "Enjoy." She sat down.
----------------------------
"Thanks for the dinner." Luke gave my mum one last hug and then gave me a peck on the cheek.
"No problem." My mother said, giving him her warm and welcoming smile.
"Bye Luke." I said, giving him another hug. Then he slipped out of my fingertips and was out the door.
"Did you have the perfect dinner you wanted, sweetie?" My mum asked me as I sat down on the couch.
"Yes mom." I smiled up at her.
"Good." She walked up stairs, waving good bye to me.
"G'night mom." I waved back to her as she disappeared up the stairs.
The dinner wasn't perfect but it was just as perfect as I wanted it to be. We laughed and talked, even about some old memories of us as kids. It was just amazing.
