Land of the Giant Flying Beast

Chapter 1

Tyler's POV

The only thing Tyler felt when he woke up from a seemingly long sleep, was the soft warmth radiating from underneath him. He didn't know what it was, nor did he care enough to open his eyes and find out either. The only thing on his mind was how blissfully at peace he felt for once, and he certainly didn't want that to change. Then he felt a warm breeze on his face.

'Now that's odd,' he thought to himself. 'There isn't usually a breeze in my room,' so it was at that moment he decided to open his eyes.

What greeted him was far from his bedroom.

Tyler slowly sat up and blearily looked around, rubbing his eyes. 'I must still be asleep,' he thought to himself. A soft minty grass lay below him, and it smelled faintly of rain. Tyler rolled onto his back and stared up at what seemed to be the sky. However, the sky itself, was a light cotton-candy pink with the same type of minty green fluffy clouds drifting along aimlessly.

He sighed to himself, feeling the warm sunlight on his face, and the breeze moving gently through his hair. Tyler sat up slowly and looked around some more to orient himself with the strange dream he was having. Colorful trees with pastel colored leaves rustling in the breeze surrounded him, he appeared to be on the edge of a forest on a cliff top.

From far away, there was a roar which shook the very ground beneath him. He quickly jumped up, searching the skies and all around him for any sign of danger. Seeing none, he relaxed and took a moment to glance at what he was wearing, for he could tell it was most definitely not his sleepwear.

When he looked down at himself, what greeted him was just like he had thought. Not his sleepwear. He appeared to have on some sort of gray tunic with black boots to top it all off. But what surprised him most about what he was wearing, was a sword and a sort of amulet-looking necklace that dangled heavily around his neck. The two seemed as though they were meant to be kept together, both being the same shade of a bright iridescent blue.

He didn't know what to do with them, he didn't know if the sword was even real at all. The amulet appeared to give off a faint warm feeling, as though it were some sort of living human being itself. The sword, when he held it sheathed in his hand, felt heavy, which most likely meant that it was indeed real, as unreal as the world he was in seemed.

Feeling the two gently, as though they might break at even the slightest touch, he marveled at them and how on earth he had dreamt of such magnificent things, or how he had ever dreamt up this beautiful world all by himself was still something he couldn't get his mind around.

A rustling sound nearby snapped him out of his dream-like trance, and he slowly turned in a circle, his hand instinctively resting on the hilt of the sword around his waist. However, he saw nothing except the colorful trees and the cotton candy sky.

"Well, no use standing around here," he thought out loud to himself as he began walking through the trees. All the while, he couldn't shake the feeling that someone was watching him, though every time he looked around, he found no one. Tyler continued his way through the trees, warily keeping his hand on the sword ready to draw it and attack whomever was obviously following and watching him.

Brightly colored birds soared high above him on the warm updrafts of air that seemed to come from the ground itself, and Tyler couldn't help but feel at home in the strange land. However, when he had passed a normal looking tree, it was at that moment that someone spoke from behind him.

"You're not from around here, are you?"
