Chapter One!

Honestly, rewriting is one of the best ways for any writer to check through their text for any flaws or unnecessary repetitions. Although I might point out that it takes FOREVER!

Chapter One: Note

Artemis was mildly relieved but also even more worried. "Talk to me, sister, what's wrong?" Athena opened one of her drawers and took out a small card and tossed it to her. She agilely caught it and skimmed through it.

The darkness will come

The gallows will call

The streets will turn red

And now you will know I've come for you

"Well that's awfully cryptic... Have you tried talking to Hades?" She recognized the writing from somewhere... "Hades is dead." Athena said coldly "What?! No! He is the god of death! How can he just die like that?!"

"Doesn't matter. Someone killed him and we found this note in a puddle of his gold blood. He should have reappeared as a dead a few days ago but he still didn't!" She put the note face down back on the table and passed it to Athena. "I assume this isn't the only thing you called me for..."

"Sister dear, I don't know what to make of this. I want you to keep an eye out for anything and everything unusual. Come visit me if you notice anything." Artemis felt a chill running down her spine. Her sister was never that serious, except when war was on the horison. "Okay I will be on my lookout," she said. The door clicked open and Artemis walked out.

"Finally Done" Hermes said. Artemis spun around, trying to find him, but he eluded her, as always. "Boo!" She squealed and he started laughing. " You... you startled me!"

"I'm bored, I've been waiting for you for a long time." He said with a small grin. Artemis couldn't not smile, "That's so sweet of you..." She felt her face heating up. "Hehe, you're the sweet one here," He smiled at her and grabbed her arm. "Come on, let's go,"

***

She looked everywhere, The note was gone. Did Artemis take it? No... She couldn't have... Athena was looking for hours, falling asleep, stumbling over her own feet, but she knew she had to keep looking. She couldn't have lost it! She couldn't have lost the only piece of evidence she had! Then she noticed it. Her bedroom was dark, the door open, a dim strip of light shining onto her bed, and there it was, the note. She picked it up and noticed the text changed.

There's nowhere to run

There's nowhere to hide

One by one

My kingdom will come

Artemis bolted up from bed, breathing heavily. "A bad dream Dia?" Hermes asked drowsily. "No, no... it's nothing," Artemis got out of bed and walked to the open window. She stood there for a while, feeling the cold against her naked body. "You look beautiful," He said, rather seductively. She closed the window and quietly slipped back into bed, but was still worried about that dream, she felt like running to Athena's chambers just to check if she was safe. Hermes's warm hand slipped down her naked body. "Merc..." She groaned, not wanting him to do that now. He kissed her neck gently, stroking her thigh. She turned away from him, not wanting to start anything. "EEEEEEK!" She screeched and fell out of bed. He started laughing and observed the angry Artemis get back into the bed. "N-N-N-Not there! Gosh! Merc what are you thinking!!" She angrily shifted herself away from him. He was always so kind to her, so nice and caring... She wanted to move on from her past and she thought he would be the one who saves her from her past. "Dia, darling, don't be mad at me," He wrapped his arms around her shoulders and as he whispered into her ear. "I'm not mad... I'm scared," He laughed again, " You can't have a child from there oh-goddess of-childbirth,"

"I'm scared of men you idiot!" She shouted at him, sitting up and resting her head on her knees. She was shivering from various memories of her awful past. "Don't cry Diana ,darling," His voice sounded soft and calming, "I didn't mean it, I'm sorry," She didn't care, she didn't feel, she was just shaking and sobbing now. He lifted the blanket and covered her with it. He watched her crying, different emotions playing across his face. "Why did you tell me you loved me when you were afraid of me?" She lifted her tear streaked face up from her knees and said, "I... I thought I could forget my past, I wanted to move on... you were so kind, gentle and loving..." her voice trailed off and she let out a strangled sob. He clasped her hand with both of his and taking a deep breath, said, "Diana, Artemis, I don't want to be with you anymore. I feel like I would just cause more harm to your already broken self. I'm sorry for any trouble I may have caused." He got up from the bed and walked towards the door, leaving the crying, falling apart Artemis behind. He knew she would unlock the door for him and he knew that she wouldn't sleep that night. He didn't really know how to feel about it. He just ran away. It was what he did his entire life... Running from everything he had known, he walked the dim hallways of Olympus alone and in silence.
