"It must really hurt." Fitz said, placing the briefcase with the drones on his bed at Providence.

"What?" She asked. Simmons pulled the elastic out of her hair and ran her hand through her loose curls.

He sat down. "Having to let her go like that. Not being able to tell her the truth."

"Is this Coulson you're talking about?" He nodded. "Mmm, it must be so horrible for him. I wish there was a way we could have done ot without putting her in such danger, I felt terrible."

"You were brilliant. The only reason she helped us is that she felt like she could trust you."

Simmons blushed. "Well... You were brilliant too, with the technology and everything."

"Thanks." He pulled the lanyard from around his neck and turned it over in his hands.

A smile suddenly lit up Simmons' face. "What did you say was in the box? In the lie detector test, I mean. I chose the Tardis, wouldn't it be fun?"

It was Fitz's turn to blush. "Er, I um..."

"You can tell me anything."

"I chose you." He blurted. "If I could have anything with me on a deserted island, I would have you."

Simmons leant over and kissed him on the cheek. "Oh Fitz, that's adorable! I honestly didn't think of having someone with me, but I would rather have you than a Tardis."

Fitz smiled. "I'd rather have you than anything else in the world."

"Even science?"

"Even science. And I would rather have brain damage than live without you."

"And I know how much you'd hate that." Simmons said, flattered.

He scratched the back of his neck. "I could live through anything so long as you were by my side."

Simmons kissed him again. "Oh, and about agent Triplett..."

"Don't worry about it. I know you're not falling head over heels for Trip or anything."

She giggled. "Fitz, that was terrible! And no, he's a nice man but I'd much rather have you. I just thought I'd let you know."

"Of course."

They sat in silence for a moment until Fitz suddenly stood up. "Coulson probably needs our help."

"Yeah, we should go."

Fitz felt a lot lighter than he had in days. The joke about Trip was terrible, and he had intended for it to be, but he had made her laugh and in these times, that was all that really mattered.
