"-Come on, wake up." Confusion swirled in my head until I finally focused on my mom's face.
"What?" I asked, slowly sitting up with a yawn. I rub my eyes before looking out the window and seeing nothing but a whole bunch of parked cars.
"We're at the airport," My mom explained. I nodded in understanding and got out the car to help her with the bags. Her bag had wheels so she was lucky, my bag only had straps but I could carry like a suitcase or on my back. I chose my back. Grabbing my book bag from the back seat, I haul it onto my back on top of my suitcase and realized; I looked like a hitchhiker or a camping guide.
Walking to the elevated of the parking garage, we meet two people on the way. An older couple named Shanique and Terrance. They jus flew in from Dallas a week ago to visit their son bc he graduated college. Now they have to get home because they forgot to let someone know to feed the fish when they're gone. I'm pretty sure the fish are dead, but you know how older generations are. Only wanna hear that they're right and no nonsense.
Parting ways, we go to the baggage claim. The lady was rude and she's lucky I didn't deck her right on the spot. My mom asked her if she could get a tag because they ran all out in the bowl, and she rolled her eyes and said, "Not my problem."
Uhm, bitch. It's your problem, you work in BAGGAGE CLAIM, you work with the BAGS and TAGS, you old hag.
Finally, a sensible elderly man came over and apologized on the behalf of his employee. I suggested firing her, but he explained that her boyfriend just cheated on her, and they are expecting a kid. See, if she would've told me that- hell, I would've helped her with revenge, but since she acted the way that she did, that woman deserved it.
Going through security, I took off my hoodie, shoes, bracelet, necklace, belt and my phone form my pocket. I placed my backpack into another bin and slid it through the metal detector. Looking at the guy who checks people, he told me to step up. I walked into the detector and held out my arms, used to the process. The only thing I wasn't used to, was the alarm going off.
"Step to side with me, ma'am." I did as I was told to do, and he stopped in front of me.
"Do you have anything that may hurt me In your pockets?"
"No."
"I will be checking you. If I do anything that makes you uncomfortable, please inform me so I may brings a female officer over here."
I nodded and he started at my feet. Patting up my legs, he made sure not to get too close to my nono box. As he patted my side where the pocket was, there was a metal sound. He looked at me, and then put his hand in my pocket, then brought it out again.
A quarter. Two fucking quarters. I smiled apologetically and he told me to go back through the metal detector. Thankfully, it never went off this time.
My mom apologized to the officers, and gave me a look as we looked at our tickets.
Fro: BWI to Dallas (Love Feild)
Departure 12:35 pm Arrival time 5:20 am
Two stops
Plane #: A117
Gate 17 Seat 6A"Mom, why didn't you get us a nonstop flight?" She sighed and looked me, irritatingly.
"Be happy I didn't make you walk!" She snapped as she turned, and walked off. I looked at her in surprise because she never acted like this before. I mean, yeah, she got irritated but she's jus plain out mean.
I turned away from her and walked in the opposite direction looking for a place to eat. Airport food is crazy expensive, like Mcdonalds here costs four times as much. I know, it's ridiculous.
Surveying around the food court once I finally made it. I got lost and accidentally ended up in a storage room where they keep stuff you're not supposed to have. That didn't go well, but luckily I ran before they actually caught me.
The aroma of Chinese,, wait. I put my nose in the air and inhaled deeply. Orange chicken. Poke fried rice. Oh my god, it's too good to be true. I follow the sweet smell and beheld a Chinese restraint. Not caring about my bank account, I get an entree of orange chicken, sweet and sour chicken, pork fried rice, and a spring roll. Cost me 46$ dollars, but I also got sesame chicken for my mama too.
Heading over to Gate 17, I see her hurriedly pressing buttons on her phone and my phone buzzing like crazy. I rolled my eyes, my mom still thinks I'm a little kid. Once we make eye contact, her face lights up and beckons me over. She's not happy to see me, she's happy to see the food.
"Gate 17, Departure for Dallas Love Field at 12:35 PM has arrived early. Please make your way to the gate, and have a nice flight!" The intercom went off, as me and my mom grabbed our luggage and went into the line. We were going to get good seats since we got Class A and not Class B, or C.
Boarding the plane went off without a hitch. We, surprisingly, didn't get seated by any crying babies or people that fell asleep. I got the window seat and fell asleep soon after the plane lifted off.
The plane was shaking. I woke up to screaming and yelling. The plane was landing but had to land in an emergency field right by the airport because communications were unclear and as we were about to land, another plane was taking off.
"Everybody put your seat belts on, and remain calm. This will get bumpy." The pilot said, and my mom held onto my hand. I saw the plane get closer and closer to the ground as another plane whipped passed us, dangerously close.
Kids were screaming while their mothers tried to quiet them down. Baggage was starting to fall. Nervousness sank into my gut because the way my mom looked, her face drained of color, made me uneasy.
As soon as the wheels get the rough ground and not smooth runway, everybody went forward. Drinks had been already collected, so no liquids spilled. It was the most rockiest thing , I have ever went through.
Once the plane came to a stop, a huge yellow slide was coming from the airport. Apparently, the airport was more prepared with a giant slide then to tell the pilot, 'Hey, you need to land somewhere else.' Isn't that relieving.
It was a while before we got off the plane, a few people got injured but no deaths. We landed at 5:45 and didn't get out of the airport till 10:37. They wanted to make sure that everybody was okay, so we had to go through health evaluations.
I was annoyed, to be honest. Me and my mama had plans for tonight because it was our first night but It clearly wasn't going to work like that. We finally checked into the hotel we were supposed to stay in and fell asleep almost instantly.
Today, starts the mark of our new life in the big state of Texas.
