gold
/ɡōld/
noun
Dust and metal and the taste of blood in your mouth. It curls around a goblet, a jewel, a fancy chair, your lips, and after all this time it remains. Beams of sunlight illuminate dust motes in an old library and the silence is almost as heavy as the metal that coats the door handles. The smell of it fills your lungs and you cough.
There is a sparkle that catches your eye and means nothing. It is not cold like the glitter of stars, nor is it warm like the sharpness of flames. It is both and it is neither. It is indifferent.
How many have lost their lives for it, how many have gained their lives because of it.
