August 9, 2012--It was the night of the circus at our local fair. As usual my grandma took my sister and I to the fair that day so my sister could watch the circus. I remember that day so clearly. After my grandma picked us up I remember getting a call from my boyfriend at the time. I picked it up as usual and started our normal conversation. I remember him yelling because I was going to the fair without him. This wasn't the first time he got upset because I was doing something with my family and not him. As usual I told him I can do things without him and that I don't always have to be with him. He started smarting off something so I hung up on him and turned my phone off. Once we got there we got our usual bucket of fries and lemonade. After that my sister and grandma went to get a seat for the circus. My younger aunt and I decided that we didn't want to go to the circus so we went to watch a local marching band instead. About 5 minutes into the show, a massive storm hit. We took off running to the barn to get away from the storm. Once we got inside we walked around to find some friends of ours who had 4-H animals. After walking around for a few minutes we finally found them. While we sat there talking, a streak of lightning hit the pole in front of us. We all jumped back. As I jumped back I felt something behind me. As I turned around I looked into the deepest and warmest brown eyes I had ever seen. It seemed as if time had stopped when I looked at him. I had a feeling that I had never felt before. Even though he was a complete stranger, I felt safe around him. At that moment I knew he was the love of my life. I felt like I was on cloud 9. Once I came back to reality I realized I was blushing. I told him I was sorry for hitting him. He said, "It's okay. It didn't bother me. But if it makes you feel better it was my fault because I didn't tell you I was behind you." We both smiled.

As the storm continued, we sat there and talked for what seemed to be only 20 minutes but happened to be 2 hours. His sister comes over to us and tells him to take care of their pigs. He looked at me with a smirk and says, "Would you like to come?" I told him that I probably shouldn't leave my aunt since she is my ride. After I said that my aunt looks at me like I have 3 heads. She spoke up and said, "Go ahead and go with him, I'll text you when it is time to leave." I turn back to him to see him doing hid cute half smile which made me blush and smile back.

Walking over the his pigs, all I could think about was how his smile made my heart melt. It was like something had changed and I wanted it to last forever. As we approached his pig pen he introduced me to his sister, Rebekah. After he seen what the pigs needed he says, "Stay here I'll be right back with the feed and water." As I stood there with his sister waiting on him to come back, Becky looked at me and said, "You like my brother don't you? All the pretty girls do." Feeling very awkward I go to answer her when he approached us and interrupts. He sees me looking awkward and nervous and asks Becky what she had said to me. After she told him he was so embarrassed and apologized for what she had said. I told him it was fine but he didn't tend to think it was. He told her to leave us alone so we could talk more. A few more minutes go by and some of my cousins approached us. My older cousin had went to school with him so she knew him pretty well. She asked what we were up to and we both looked at each other and smiled. Before we could say anything she said, "I get it." She looked at me and said, "Give me your phone." So I turned my phone on and waited for all the notifications to come through and put in my password and gave it to her. She got on my contacts and started scrolling through and did not see his name. So like usual she did her own thing and created a new contact and said, "Here Luke, you and I both know you guys want each others number so go ahead and get it over with." I felt so embarrassed. She then said," My work here is done. See y'all later." He then put in his number and handed it back to me while my aunt approached us saying, "Hey, mom wants to leave so we are not stuck in traffic at the end of the night." Looking upset, I tell him goodbye and walk away. As I reach the doorway of the barn I hear him yelling, "Hey, Wait up!" Confused I looked back and seen him running toward me. He said, "I just wanted you to know that I have football in the morning so if I don't text you I am definitely not ignoring you." He winked and smiled then ran back to his pigs.

Once I got in the car I noticed that I had a text from him saying to let him know when I made it home safe since it had been raining. That meant so much to be because no guy had ever worried about me in that way. On the drive home I continued checking my notifications. I noticed I had about 4 missed calls with voicemails attached and about 20 texts from my boyfriend at the time. Once I noticed I started to feel bad about flirting with Luke.I started listening to the voicemails first. They were all filled with hate and eventually ended with apologies. The longer I listened to them the less guilty I felt. After I read all the texts I still did not reply back to him. I just stared at the texts contemplaiting everything. Should I have stayed home and not went out with my family and had a great time? Why am I being treated this way? I looked back on the whole 2 months we were together and could count the number of times he made me happy on one hand. That was the moment I realized that I deserved better. I eventually called him once I got home and broke up with him.

Before I called my boyfriend I texted Luke and told him I had made it home safely. After the thirty minute break up conversation with my boyfriend I eventually hung up on him. I noticed I had a couple texts back from Luke. He said, "I'm glad you made it home safe. Are you okay beautiful?"  That night we stayed up until 3 a.m talking like we had know each other all our lives.
