It was hot, the dark sky looming over the desert bellow. Even at this time of night, it was still hot.
The wind howled outside of homes built of clay and sand, silence filling the barren lands.Small pitter patter of tiny talons galloped their way down the clay molded stairs of a home and a small SandWing dragonet, no older than 3 years, scurried into the living room. He had heard a noise...
"Mommy," he called in a hushed voice, wandering over to the sandy nest they had built moon's ago for the newest addition to their family. An egg sat within it... and it gave a few twitches. The small dragonet flinched and scrambled backwards.
"Mommy! Daddy! It's hatching!" He called a bit louder to his parents who were sleeping upstairs. After a few moments of silence, he finally heard the heavy footsteps of his mother and father emerging from the staircase.
"What are you doing up, Antelope?" Ra asked, the male dragon looking down at his son. His mate, a smaller and pale female following him.Antelope grinned a toothy smile. "The egg! It's hatching!" He exclaimed, pattering around his father's talons excitedly.
Ra blinked before he beckoned his mate; Pyramid to his side. The dragoness walked over, her green eyes scanning the unmoving egg until it twitched once again.Pyramid hummed, giving a careful swish of her tail.
"Excellent... our other baby," she smiled gleefully to her mate, nuzzling under his chin once, Ra returning it lovingly.
"Indeed... they'll be wonderful," he purred, leaning his head down to get a better look as the eggshell cracked ever so slightly."Come on little one.. you can do it," Ra encouraged, his black eyes brightening.
Antelope watched from his father's side, anticipating the arrival of his little brother or sister...As the egg twitched and moved within the nest of sand, more small cracks began to journey it's way across the smooth, pale yellow shell. Until a tiny talon shot out, shards of shell sprinkling onto the sand.
Ra and Pyramid watched intently as their dragonet made the next attempts to wiggle free of the egg.Soon both a tail and another talon popped out and lastly a nose. It made a small squeak as it pushed its head through the shell barrier, using tiny claws to break the rest of the confinement.
Finally, the tiny SandWing dragonet's wings broke the rest of the egg and he fell from it, landing with a tumble onto the sand nest. Some sand stuck to him due to the slimy residue from the egg and he shook his head to try and rid from it. This dragonet was born in the middle of a war... and he had no idea.Ra smiled lovingly as his eyes landed upon his new dragonet, reaching out with large talons and lifted it up carefully.
Pyramid watched softly, huddling close with her mate, Antelope trotting around their legs for a better look.Ra gave a rumbly purr of joy. "He's beautiful... our son.. I think Zebra suits him nicely," He said, pressing his muzzle to the tiniest creature, earning a squeal from the dragonet. Pyramid chuckled.
"I like it... Zebra it is. Precious.." she cooed, nuzzling the newhatched as well."Our perfect little SandWing..."
