After the hour flight to Toronto I got my bags and waited for Lacy to come get me. She was my best friend ever since I was in diapers. Her and Hayden. Hayden moved when I was fourteen, right before my parents died. I didn't talk to him since the day he left. which is quite strange since we were practically joined at the hip. We did everything together. We would have sleepovers, sit beside each other in class and he would come over everyday after school.
Snapping out of my thoughts I looked around, spotting the blond with short curly hair. When she finally noticed me her blue eyes got huge, as she started running over to me. I dropped the handle of my suitcase and hugged her when she finally made it over, her high heals hitting the ground with every step she took. Its a wonder how she even walks, let alone runs in those things.
"Lux! Omg! I missed you so much!" she exclaimed as she pulled back with her hands still placed on my shoulder. She actually said 'OMG' instead of 'Oh my god'. Well that's a new Lacy I have to get use to. She use to be a tom boy, and now she's wearing high heals and say 'Omg'. I was about to answer back before she went on,
"Your so gorgeous! You have changed so much since the last time I saw you!" She gushed. Now that's the Lacy I know. The one that's always complementing people. Shes still bubbly and generous.
"I'm gorgeous? Have you looked in the mirror lately? Your a stunner Lace. And I love what you did to your hair, its so short and cute!" I said playing with her hair. I love the color of it. How blond it is. And she's never even died it. Time for me to be jealous. Yeah, Ive never died my hair too, but I'm stuck with a poop brown. I don't get how though. Both my parents had different colour hair. My dad had black and my mom had blond. Well I guess it kinda makes sense. The blond and black mix and makes a dark brown.
"Well we can talk about this in the car on the way to Sarnia. That guy over there is kinda creeping me out" She took her hands off my shoulder and looked over at a man, who was indeed staring at us. I see how she's creeped out. I thought to myself as a chill ran up my spine. He looked as if he was undressing us with his eyes. Even when we looked fully at him he just stared, biting his lip and eye raping us. Can you say perv?
It was a pretty fast three hours filled with gossip about our current life, boys, celebrities, how hot Justin Bieber was when I met him last month, Number 88 on my bucket list. And also how I feel about everything that's going on. I masked my emotions in front of Lacy. Yes, she is my best friend, but she doesn't know everything like Farrah. And she doesn't know what its like to lose both your parents like Farrah does.
It just turned 10 when we finlay puled on to her street. I looked at my old house. The flowers outside were dead. The grass was long. The house looked different. and not in the good way. It wasn't as alive as it was when the three of us lived in the house. My dad wasn't there to cut the grass or get rid of the weeds. And my mom wasn't there to plant and water the flours every spring and summer. It wasn't as alive as it use to be. Who ever moved in to the house isn't really the out doorsy type I see.
Next I looked at the house beside it. Hayden's old house. It was still as gorgeous and well maintenance as it use to be. I felt a pang of sadness as I saw our tree in his front lawn, and I thought back to one of our many keepsake memories.
" I give up Hayden. I will never be able to climb the tree. Its too hard" I said, looking up at my best friend in the tree, then I turned around and started walking.
"Your just going to give up? Just like that? after all this you just quite?" He stopped me dead in my tracks. I turned around at stared strait in his dark eyes.
"I cant do it Haydie. I give up" I said with a shrug, trying to make it seem as if I don't care, but the truth is the opposite. I do care. A lot. I have waited so long to be tall enough the jump and I still cant do it.
"
Luxie, if I believe in you then you should too. I know you can do it. Just try your hardest." he smiled down at me. This is one of the reasons Hayden is my best friend. He knows what to say, and the best time to say it.
I took a deep breath in as I nodded. I walked up to the lowest branch on the tree. I took one more deep breath in and out as I crouched down, ready to jump. As I pushed of the ground I looked up and to my surprise and Hayden's delight I caught the branch between my small hands.
"Now flip and put your feet on this branch then pull yourself up." He exclaimed pointing at another branch close by. I did as he said and soon I was sitting beside him on the tree that took me 12 years to finally be able to climb.
"I knew you could do it baby girl" He hugged me. I smiled at his use of his nickname for me. He calls me all kinds of things but that's the one he has used since I was born, since he is 2 years older.
"Lux, we're here" Lacy snapped me out of my flashback as she looked over at me.
"Huh? Oh, yeah, thanks" I gave her a warm smile as I got out of the car. Her house was three houses down from Hayden's but on the other side of the street.
I walked to the back of her Blue Volkswagen Jetta and grabbed my three suitcases from the trunk. I tried to pack light, I did, but its too hard when your a girl. Plus I'm here for a month.
"Let me help" Lucy said grabbing the smallest one, which left me with the two big ones. Wimp.
I tried to pull both suit cases up the driveway but I gave up after a long battle, ending with me kicking the suitcase and it falling over. smooth.
I heard someone clear their throat then ask
"Need help?" Oh, no. It couldn't be. But I know I would never mistake that voice. Although it did sound deeper and sexier, it was still coming from the mouth of him. Hayden.
I looked up and caught his eye. Still the same dark brown orbs I use to look into every single day for 14 years.
"Hayden?" I asked more to myself then to him. I just couldn't believe he was here. After four years of not even speaking to him, he was standing in front of me. He looked completely different but strangely the same. For one thing he was taller. Way taller. He used to be a short scrawny kid. Yes, he was and always has been taller then me but I'm not denying I'm short. The second thing is he has muscle. And by that I mean you can see his six pack through is shirt. And his hair. Wow, his hair. Its not all floppy like it use to be. Its a hair style im not too familiar with but damn, did it look good. No, not on him. Just in genial. I would never call him hot. Who am I kidding? He was sexy.
As if he caught me eye raping him, he laughed a bit awkwardly and shoved his hands in to the front pocket of his jeans.
"Yeah, Its me Lux. How have you been?" He asked when he caught my attention again.
"I've been good! These last four years have been amazing. How about you?" I smiled. Lies. All lies that I was feeding him. Everything was a lie now. I couldn't just go around saying ' Oh, I have been so shitty. My parents died and now I'm dying. Did I mention I have close to a year left to live?' Now could I? One, people would think I'm strange for giving them my life story while they asked 'How you doing?' And two, I hate pity. I know I'm going to die, I know there's nothing to fix it, I have had my time to mourn and weep, so lets move on. I would rather live the rest of my life in happiness and joy instead of shedding tears that have know point on being let out.
"Its been awesome. I have been at collage for the last year and a half. When I came back I couldn't wait to reunite with you but Lace told me you moved to the big apple. Why's that?"
"Reason's" I said and gave him a smile. He didn't ask any other questions as he grabbed one of my bags and we started back up the driveway.
