I hopped off on the alter in a single motion, surprising Lucien. "Alright. I'm not the type to brood around, so lets get moving. Besides, I want an explanation. Where to first, oh great king?"
Smirking, Lucien bantered, "Oh great King? I could get used to that."
I snorted. "Don't let your ego get any bigger."
Lucien put his hand over his heart in a joking manner. "Your words hurt me so, Goddess. How ever did I leave such an impression on you?"
I gave him my best stink eye. He sighed. "Very well, all joking aside, it'll be a couple of hours until the other rulers arrive. How about a tour?"
I thought about it for a second. Should I? I'm not really planning to stay long. I need to find a way back home. Though it would be interesting to see more of this world since I'm stuck here for the time being... a sudden yawn escaped me. Shit, the no sleep is catching up.
"I didn't really get a lot of sleep last night, is there anywhere I could rest for a bit if we have time then? I'm exhausted." And I won't be staying long.
He smirked. "Of course! Follow me, I'll let you sleep on the best bed in the castle." He looked extremely smug for just giving me a bed to take a nap on... Wait.
"...is this bed yours?"
He stilled, looking like a child caught doing something his mother told him not to.
"..."
"..."
"... Yes..?"
"I refuse."
He clicked his tongue.
"Do you just have a normal guest room? I'm okay with that. Or even a couch. I can sleep anywhere."
A collective gasp went through the crowd. A man who looked like he was in his early fifties stepped forward. "You can't!"
I turned my head to fully look at him. His shoulder-length hair, turning grey at places but dark brown at the rest, was styled so that it was pulled back by a neat bun at the base of his neck. His robes were a deep royal blue, with light blue cumulus clouds patterning it. His dark brown eyes were widened in shock.
"Huh? What do you mean?"
His eyes shifted from me to Lucien and then back to me. His eyes lit up in reverence when he was looking at me, but terror when looking at Lucien. Interesting. "No couch or simple guest bed could ever be deserving of you. It would be blasphemy for us to allow you to rest there!"
...What? Blasphemy? But I'm just a 20 year old college student?
"Is this about that legend shit? I'm just a college student. I've slept on couches before. Hell, I've slept in worse places..."
Lucien snapped his head around to me at that. "You've slept in worse places?"
"Well, sure. There was this one time that I ended up knocking out on the ground outside of an airport when my team bus was late in picking us up. Actually, now that I'm thinking about it, we were right next to the pet relief area weren't we..."
A cry came from the crowned people (still) surrounding us. A woman looked so shocked at my statement she began to look faint, a man next to her griping her shoulder to support her. The brown-haired man looked like he was going to vomit.
"...It really wasn't that bad."
Lucien shook his head in what seemed to be anger. "That..who dares disrespect you like that!" roared Lucien.
