Chapter 2

I can't stop thinking about my family. I lost them right when everything started to go bad. My brother, never came home that day. I witnessed my own mother kill the love of her life. Then she tried to kill me. I couldn't defend myself. How could I? She's my mother and I could never hurt her. I managed to tie her to a chair where she couldn't move. I didn't want to leave her. I couldn't.

"I love you mom. Never forget that." I turned around and left my house. Sheila caught up with me and we walked away. We didn't stop. I never looked back. I knew if I did I would never let her go.

I still remember that day as if it were yesterday. I still feel the pain and the terror. I never knew things could get so bad.

As I'm walking through the woods I hear footsteps in the distance. I crouch behind a rock. As I look over I see a group of people. I can't show myself, not yet. They can't be trusted. I wait and wait hoping for one of them to start a conversation so I can see if they're infected or not. I throw a rock in their direction and nothing happens. They all keep walking.

"Sheila are you ready to run girl?" I put my backpack on and sprint as fast as I can. I try to search for a clearing in the woods so I can get to the roads. I see light ahead of me, I'm not sure where the light is coming from but I keep running. As I get closer I realize it's a cabin.

"Sheila c'mon were almost there!" I yell to her and I notice She's slowing down. Finally we reach the cabin, I bang on the doors hoping someone can help us.

"Somebody help us please! They're coming!" As I back away from the door hoping to find an open window I see a man, about my age on the roof. He has a gun in his hand and he's aiming for the group of infected.

"The key is under the third step!" He yells down to me. I run down the stairs and search under the stairs. I feel cold metal touch my fingertips. I grab the key and run inside just as one of the infected grab my shoulder. I scream at the top of my lungs as I'm pushed to the floor. The infected person jumps on top of me and starts choking me. I look up and I can't believe what I see.

"Connor? Connor it's me!" I yell to my brother as I pull his hands off of me, but he continues to strangle me. He's infected. Tears stream out of my eyes as I gasp for air. My vision becomes faint as everything around me starts to fade.
