Silence

Yeah, I'd rather be a lover than a fighter
'Cause all my life, I've been fighting
Never felt a feeling of comfort
All this time, I've been hiding
And I never had someone to call my own, oh nah
I'm so used to sharing
Love only left me alone
But I'm at one with the silence

I found peace in your violence
Can't tell me there's no point in trying
I'm at one, and I've been quiet for too long
I found peace in your violence
Can't tell me there's no point in trying
I'm at one, and I've been silent for too long

Silence by Marshmello

Derek and I didn't end up making it to the apartment. After pulling off down a dirt road and getting down and dirty in the car we headed towards the hospital to check on the bus driver.

"You coming in with me?" He asked. I contemplated it for a moment.

"No. I'm gonna make some calls see what I can find out about the mating mark. Mellissa's working tonight. I don't want her getting suspicious." He nodded. He pulled the keys out and handed them to me pointing a finger in my face.

"No smoking in the car." I rolled my eyes, but nodded none the less. I'm not a child. He exited the vehicle and took off inside. Opening my door, I stepped out and leaned against the car pulling out a cigarette and lighting it taking a long drag before pulling my phone out. I scrolled through my contacts before finding the one I need.

"Hey Cora. What's up?" Sam answered. I smiled.

"I've got a secret mission for you Sasquatch." I could imagine the eye roll I received for that one.

"What do you need? Why don't you ask Dean?" I took a drag thinking about how to word it before answering.

"Mm... I'd rather Dean be kept out of the loop on this one. Uncle Bobby too."

"What the hell's going on?" I sighed.

"I need you to tell me what you know about werewolf mating bites." Sam was silent for a moment.

"Cora? Why do you need to know about mating bites?" I took another drag and pinched the bridge of my nose.

"Don't judge me Samantha. We didn't mean for it to happen. Neither of us are sure what happened. Derek and I... We were... You know... And I don't know. I was so caught up in the moment I didn't even realize he was losing control, next thing I know I wake up a few hours later and I've been claimed. He's never even felt the urge to claim someone."

"Jesus Cora. This is some heavy shit. Are you okay?" I threw the butt of my cigarette down and stomped it out.

"I don't know. I mean. Yeah. It's Derek, Sam." He blew out a breath.

"There's a difference between having feelings for someone, then there is being tethered to someone for the rest of your life. The only way to get rid of a claim is for one of you to die." I let out a humorless chuckle.

"I know Sam. I also know that most mated pairs are wolf/wolf. Not wolf/human. I know that a bond develops to the point that they can feel each other's emotions, and find each other no matter where the other is. But I don't know if it's the same with interspecies couples or not. I also always thought it was a choice. Not an instinct thing. So, I'm just really confused."

"Well I don't know much more than you. You were always the wolf expert. I'll do some looking and see what I can find. You're going to have to tell them eventually though. Dean especially."

"I know. I just. I want to figure it out first. Thank you, Sam." I told him before hanging up. I turned to get back into the car just as Derek was approaching. He had a look of anger and confusion on his face. He didn't even look at me as he opened his door and threw himself in slamming the door behind him.
