Well I (KEKamalP) decided that just to be clear, I'll put a kind of thing that lets you know which one would be the right category for your story. This is to help you and our judges as to what categories fits what.

Action/Adventure:

We know that action and adventure are two separate categories, but they are actually tightly related. On an adventure, you would probably see yourself doing some doing some action or vice versa. Action is where the story is much more up tempo. Adventure well, is going on adventure. The characters going on a risky task maybe, or an encounter with some crazy thing.

Chick lit

It's a literature (usually a work of fiction) that will appeal to women, many of these stories have some romance or something sentimental but it doesn't always. The difference with romance, is that normally, it'll focus on the girl's life more.

Fan Fiction

A fan fiction has settings, characters, or works that have been recreated into their own story. Sometimes, it isn't characters rather, the actual person. In a way, you can say a fan fiction is a fiction made by a fan of the story/movie/etc. that they decided to take ideas from.

Fantasy

Fantasies are inspired with things like magic or mythology. They usually come with animals like witches, fairies, wizards, werewolves, dragons, unicorns. It can seem like it all just came up in a dream. The things in the story are likely not going to happen. (for example, I doubt an actual werewolf will ever happen, but who knows?)

General Fiction

If you find yourself with a story that has many genres, you can put it in general fiction. Maybe it's a teen fiction but is intended for an older audience, then this is the place to put it. Sometimes, if you have a fix of other genres you can put it as a general fiction, sometimes, if you just have a story that doesn't seem to fit any of the genres that they have given you, then you can put it in general fiction.

Historical Fiction

Now, historical can be complicated in a sense that you some people don't know whether to put a time travel story in historical fiction or science fiction. Well, to clarify, if you do have a time travel story, if it focuses more on the past and they are in the past (and not just a few days ago, I mean far in the past) the whole story it should probably be in Historical fiction, especially if it is focused on the historical aspects of it. These, if not a time travel, normally have to do with lives, lifestyles and plots of the past, many years ago, not just a decade, maybe a century.

Horror

These stories are set out to frighten their readers, giving them a feeling of terror and horror. These stories can include super-natural things, but it doesn't have to.

Humor

A humorous story has things that often make you laugh, most of the time, the whole book (or most of it) is very light hearted and fun, sometimes humorous books can be a book of jokes and/or riddles, funny pictures and what you think of it or just a story that is funny.

Mystery/Thriller

A mystery story is a story with a puzzle or secret, thriller stories normally involve a threat or something threatening and the characters tend to try to fix it like it were some mystery.

Paranormal

Stories that involve things that can't be scientifically explained. For example, people born with supernatural, or paranormal powers. A lot of the time we see these stories as something scary but it doesn't have to be.

Poetry

Where the author focuses on the language they are using to describe their content. Poetry doesn't always have to rhyme, it can be free and flow too. We will also count songs as poetry as well as music can be a language too.

Romance

What's romance? It's basically what it is titled, romance. A lot of the time, there are two characters who are in a relationship a lot of the time they will end up together, but that isn't always the case. If not, it can also be an optimistic end but of course, not every story ahs a happy ending. In romance, of course, a lot of romance happens, but it is different from chick lit because in chic lit they focus on the female, in romance, they can focus on either or both the characters, or even someone else, but chick lit is when it focuses especially on the female(s) in the story.

Science Fiction

A science fiction story is a story of fictional science. Many times it is about things that have not happened yet, like time travel, shape shifting, teleportation, etc. In many cases, they focus on the future, but it can be about the present or the past too.

Short Story

Short stories are pretty much the same as any other story. They could be literally any genre, but the thing is, unlike a novel, it is much shorter. It can be split into chapters or not. The story is normally a little less complex, but there is no difference from it to a novel, other than its length.

Spiritual

In a spiritual story, it involves the character(s) reflecting on their religion. Or it can just involve  religious content. In the Chillin' Awards we are open to any religion, however, we will not accept any discrimination or offense to those and their beliefs, including in the book.

Teen Fiction

Teen fictions are normally aimed to interest young adults or teens. They often consist stories with characters who are teens, in middle school, high school or just a young adult. Sometimes though, it just talks about the things that happen as a teen/young adult.

Vampire/Werewolf

This is where the story is focused mainly on the vampire or werewolf or even both. According to wattpad, the users on wattpad have wanted werewolf and vampire to have their own genres so they decided to do so.

LGBTQ+

An LGBTQ+ story involves things that include anything that have to do with LGBTQ+. Some think that LGBTQ+ is just romance but it is much more than that, there are other components that go into LGBTQ+. In these stories, we find that it focuses on a character that is part of the LGBTQ+ community or some LGBTQ+ concept.

I hope this helps. Please, ask questions if you'd like!
