Prologue

"This is not a test."
She tied her long black hair into a ponytail.
"This is your emergency broadcast system announcing the commencement of the Annual Purge sanctioned by the U.S Government."
He pulled on his black combat boots.
"Weapons of class 4 and lower have been authorized for use during the Purge. All other weapons are restricted."
She gripped her sink and looked in the mirror.
"Government officials of ranking 10 have been granted immunity from the Purge and shall not be harmed."
He stole a glance at the clock.
"Commencing at the siren, any and all crime, including murder, will be legal for 12 continuous hours."
'Shit'
Police, fire, and emergency medical services will be unavailable until tomorrow morning, until 7 a.m., when the Purge concludes."
'Fuck.'
"Blessed by our New Founding Fathers and America,"
They each took a breath.
"a nation reborn."
He was her target. And she was his.
