CHAPTER 6
-
ANSEL POV
-------------It's around six o'clock pm when Hannah finally comes over.
"Hey!" I greet her, giving her a hug. She gives me a half-hearted smile. I can tell there's something wrong with her. We sit on the couch, and turn on the television. I sit with my arm around her shoulders. After a while, I turn down the volume and look at her.
"So, how was your day?" I ask, smiling at Hannah. She shrugs.
"Okay, I guess." Her eyes are watery, like she's about to cry. I involuntarily squeeze her shoulder tighter.
"Do you want to talk about it?" She bites her lip and shakes her head. When she doesn't respond, I speak again.
"Come on, Hannah. This is Ansel you're talking to. You can tell me anything." For a moment, she looks like she wants to tell me, but then she shakes her head again.
"Ansel, I'm sorry. I just really can't tell you." She wipes a tear off her cheek.
"Hannah, come on. Just tell me. It's not like you murdered someone." Right after I finish the sentence, she freezes. I feel a shiver run through my whole body. Hannah can't be a murder...can she?
"Hannah," I grab her chin and force eye contact. "Please, tell me you aren't a murderer."
"I'm not telling you."
"This isn't a joke; you need to tell me, now."
"I don't have you tell you anything!" She's getting angry now. Her eyes start watering and she rolls her eyes.
"This is something you have to tell me! I won't hate you; no matter what you say. I'll always love you, Hannah." By now she's sobbing.
"I don't want to talk about this, okay? C-Can't you just respect the fact that it's something personal and I don't want the whole world to k-know?!"
"Telling me isn't telling the whole world!" I shout. I don't mean to yell, but it hurts my feelings that she doesn't trust me enough to tell me.
"I-I'm not g-going to risk ruining our r-relationship over a s-stupid childhood memory!" She's crying so hard I can barely understand her. She walks over to grab her purse, like she's going to leave.
"Well, obviously, it's not some stupid memory if it has you this upset!" I scream at the top of my lungs. She storms out the door, slamming it as hard as she can. After she leaves, I regret yelling at her. She'll never tell me anything if I act like that. I decide to text her.
