It was the first day of school for me and I could already feel the glares of the other children. I adjusted the paper bag that fit perfectly over my head. It wasn't long before the first set of upperclassmen spotted me. "Hey you, kid with the bagged head" said one of the boys "are you ugly? Is that why you need a bag over your head" he called again. I knew immediately that he was the alpha of the group. " do you need something?" I asked, hoping they'd leave me be. "What grade are you in?" Another one of the boys called out. I didn't answer; I simply turned and walked away; that was my first mistake. The oldest boy grabbed me and threw me to the ground. My bag still snug on my face, I tried to get away. "Oh no buddy, where do you think you're going?" They all started to laugh and kick me. I tried to to protect my head but that didn't stop the blows to my stomach and back. Suddenly the kicks stopped and a emasculating scream came from one of the boys. I looked up to see an angle; quite literally. She had golden blonde hair tied back with two red ribbons and two small pure white wings sprouting from her back. She held a tuft of hair from the oldest boy. She let out a giggle and said "are you alright?" As she helped me up. I didn't say anything I just nodded and walked away; that was my second mistake.

A few days later I arrived at the playground to wait for class to start when the group of boys came back. "Hey freak where's your little girlfriend?" One of the smaller boys called out. I didn't say anything just sat on the swing set awaiting the beating that was sure to come. The oldest boy who obviously had a chunk of hair and scalp missing raised his fist and then froze. He had a look of fear on his face and a large stain was spreading from the crotch of his pants. He ran away and so did the other boys. I turned around to see the angel standing behind me. "I don't need you to fight for me" I said to her. she looked puzzled or a moment . "What's your name?" She asked, I just rolled my eyes and walked away. "Hey" she yelled "I saved your butt twice and you can't even tell me your name". I stopped and looked back "Jonathan, just jonathan" I said with a grin on my face. She chased after me and giggled. "My name is sam".

9 YEARS LATER

I was lying under a tree in the meadow just off my home when something fell on top of me. I open up my eyes to see sam with a big grin on her face "hey Johnny" she giggled knowing damn well I hated when she called me that. "Hello sam" I said to rolling her off of me. " have a present for you" sam said while pulling a gold wrapped box from the tree she was hiding in. "I think the bag is getting a little old" she said pulling at the corners of the bag that was snug around my face. I pushed her away and stood up "you can't do that, you know that". She made a pouty face and wrapped her arms around my waist "I'm sorry don't be mad at me". I hugged her back longer than I should have maybe. We laid down on the ground and sat there for a while. We talked about what we wanted to do when we got out of high school or what we want in life. Sam still had the same two ribbons tied back in her hair though her wings were much bigger now. Whenever she came around me my heart would beat out of my chest. I constantly thought about her, maybe I was falling in - "Johnny!" I pulled myself back to reality to see someone grabbing sam. I tried to react but my attempt was halted by a blow to the back of my head. I blacked out.
When I woke up there was no sign of sam anywhere except for the gold present on the ground. "Sam! Sam!" I yelled as I quickly stood up grabbing the gift on my way up. This can't be happening she can't be gone....I love her. I ran to sam's house hoping I'd see her there. When I arrived the house that once stood y'all was burned to the ground. How could this be happening how did they just disappear like this.
I made my way home to formulate a plan. If I just figure out who took her then I can find her. I walked up to my room with Sam's gift in hand. Hot tears streamed down my face dampening the paper bag on my head. I began to open the box taking off the bow then the wrapping paper; once I got to the box I saw what was inside. A hockey mask with a red ribbon to secure it to my head. I knew what I have to do; I have to find her.
