Melanie hummed as she washed the counter. It was the first few minutes since opening for the day of the coffee shop she worked at. Looking up, she saw a car pull into the almost vacant parking lot. Smiling to herself, she grabbed her cleaning supplies and walked back over to the cash register. She was on her own for the first few hours so she had to take orders and make the drinks. Melanie never minded though. She liked to think of it as her real-life version of Papa's Cafeteria.

While walking back, Melanie dropped her tip jar at the exact moment that the door opened. Quickly bending down to pick up the jar, she apologized. "I'm sorry. I'll be with you in a moment."

"Oh, that's fine." The person responded.

Something in the slightly dreamy voice sounded familiar to the young barista. Standing up straight again, she adjusted her apron. "Okay, how may I help - Abi?"

Hazel eyes meet Melanie's grey ones. Abi smiled wide and stared at her old best friend. Melanie stared back. Though, unlike Abi, she was more shocked then happy to see her. "Well, aren't you going to give your best friend a hug?" She asked.

Melanie shook her head and made her way to the counter to give the blonde a hug. The slightly shorter girl hugged the barista. They stayed hugging for a while before the grey-eyed girl pulled away. "You're back..."

Nodding, Abi cupped her friend's face. "I'm back..."

Senior Year of High School

Melanie laughed loudly on Abi's bed. The other girl had just finished telling her a horrible day she had had at camp, and the Cuban couldn't help but laugh.

"You're not just fucking with me right?" She chuckled, popping another Cheeto into her mouth.

The blonde Caucasian smiled. "Trust me, I wish I was."

The two best friends laughed on the navy blue bed in the vacant house. Abi's parents were out and her older brother was at the bar, while her younger sister was on her way to camp. It was the night of graduation and instead of spending it out like most of their classmates, the hazel-eyed girl suggested they spend it indoors.

"Mm, my turn." The Cuban said. She swallowed the mouthful of junk food she had eaten and looked at her best friend.

Abi's was wearing a yellow tie-dye shirt, brown ripped jeans, and grey Vans. Melanie was wearing a grey shirt with a girl holding a rose on it, the red rose being the only pop of colour. She wore black ripped jeans and rainbow Converse and picked at her blackish-green nose ring. Melanie was so different from Abi. First off, she was Cuban Mexican, and Abi was Caucasian. Melanie had dark grey eyes, which depending on her mood changed colour, and pitch black hair. Abi, on the other hand, had light hazel eyes and blonde hair. Melanie's skin was slightly tan and her face had freckles dotting it here and there. Abi had pale skin and no freckles, but a small scar on her eyebrow. The Cuban girl hated going out to parties, she preferred staying inside and playing video games or something music related. Abi loved going out. She lived for it. She loved to dance and laugh and party and make people fall for her then break their hearts. Melanie fell in love easily but had only ever had one girlfriend before.

That's another thing. Both of them were depressed. Melanie had bipolar depression and Abi's, much like herself, was a mystery, but was definitely there. Melanie didn't really try to hide it, around anyone, that she was different. She was gay, had bipolar depression, and social anxiety. Abi was also gay, had some form of depression, but was as extroverted as they come. The blonde tried to hide the fact that she was different for as long as she could from someone before they figured it out, usually from Melanie.

They were two very different people, yet still found each other and had such a strong connection. A connection now being used to play Truth or Dare.
