Audrey was one for crazy ideas growing up, but this time Jae wasn't sure where she was headed. A night of unlucky love, left her sister determined to experiment with her love life one last time.
"Audrey, what are you looking for? What can the internet possibly do to fix my love life besides offering me porn to indulge in?"
"Well, first off, not everything stems back to porn in regards to the internet. Second off, I'm not looking I've found it. I have your solution. No need to ask anything more, or be concerned. We got this," she smirked."Oh, and you're welcome in advance," a smile started. "I told you, we were gonna find you options, and this my dear is one of them you have yet to embrace."
She tilted her head. Her option flashed brightly on her computer screen like neon lights to a strip club.
One Love. One Life. One Site.
"What is this? A dating site? Oh, come on now," she flared her arms, "you really have lost your God for sakin' mind. I mean, really? I am not going on a dating website! Have I reached that depth of desperation?" She got up and grabbed a bag of chips and proceeded to munch on multiple ones at a time. "Look, there are creeps on there! I don't need that kind of crazy in my life," she whined.
"And your point is? Come on, you've already met most of them by now. You've had that crazy in your life for how many years? Now, you can easily one click, just like your Amazon on someone your interested in and take him for a test drive. Think of this as your virtual dating guru. It'll lead you with suggestions of who you can match well with."
Jae shrugged.
"Aren't you tired of all the bullshit already?"
She was tired of the bullshit and the criticism that came along with it. Jae always thought Audrey should have been a therapist instead of a project manager. She was so good with people.
"Look, all you have to do is answer these questions honestly, and the site does the rest for you. They'll find you suitable bachelors in your area that match what you're looking for and who you're compatible with. It's worth a shot, isn't it? I mean really think about it. What could it really hurt?"
A soft buzz echoed against her granite countertop.
ALEX: HEY J, DTF?
Jae groaned.
"Another amazing bachelor?"
"No. More like another unwanted George Clooney scenario with a guy I dated for a few months." Jae tilted her head. "How do you go from dating to this, dtf bullshit months later?" she turned her phone to Dre to see the text.
"DTF? What the hells that? Dinner time friend?" Dre asked innocently.
"Wow, you are out of loop aren't ya?" Jae shook her head. "No. Down to fuck."
"Who says that?"
"Exactly. Alright, screw it. Let's just see what kind of guys are on here before I commit to anything, ok?"
"I'll take it, but you have to sign up to see."
"Seriously?" she complained.
"Yeah, but it's just this simple info and then you can chose to do a profile later if you wanna stay with it."
"I feel like you're conning me."
"No, con. Just try it and quit your bitching."
"Fine." Moments later, "there."
The scroller moved down as potential men looked back at the two of them. "Wait a sec. Go back," she motioned with her hands. "Him. Click it. Quick. Before I change my mind."
Derrick Hendricks. Age 32. 5'7". VP at Hulgart and Bloomingdale.
"Dark hair, dark eyes, Wait," Jaelyn paused. "Where's the rest?" She scrolled the cursor up and down as if it was going to cause more of his profile to be visible.
Audrey cunningly laughed, "You have to sign up to get that. So, what do ya say? Are you ready?" her eyebrows perked up.
She wished to object, but her sister was right. It was time to change. Time to embrace a different lifestyle. This man's profile provided Audrey the ammo she needed to get what she wanted; Jae's profile.
"Screw it," she gave in. "Let's do this." She pulled her chair closer to the computer. "Alright, you got me. I'm ready for a change; hopefully for the better."
"Oh goodie!" Dre clapped her hands excitedly.
"Alright, now you have me wondering if this is really for me, or for your entertainment."
"Come on, now. You know I always have your best interest in mind." Audrey was always a woman her sister looked up to in everything she did. After basically raising her younger sister herself, with little to no help from their father, Audrey was always a motherly figure who looked out for Jae.
"Alright, I'm gonna get us some much needed wine." She got up from the chair and started to walk to the kitchen, then turned back to Jae. "Finish that damn profile. I'm gonna go call Braydon quick to let him know it might be a long night." she joked. "We are gonna get you a man." She prowled into the cabinets as if she was on a mission to find her the one tonight and alcohol was gonna be the key. "We have work to do, so get ready." She poured two glasses to the top, and left out the bottle just in case.
"Oh thanks, you really have a way with words sometimes, did you know that?"
Dre snickered. "You know I'm only joking," she mocked, her voice high pitched and airy.
As Audrey talked to Braydon about their planned girl's night, Jaelyn sat and questioned her next move. Was she really about to embark down the road of internet lust? All that was left for her to do, was to indulge in some wine and set up what her sister wanted from her - a profile.
