My dad, Jefferson Mothy, was an educated man; tall and thin, nose was the perfect shape and his eyes the perfect distance.

My mother on the other hand was also very bright; long brown hair, tall and fair, and more imaginative. She had all the characteristics a good mother should have.

I am an only child. It gets pretty lonely most of my days. I like that I get attention from my parents but sometimes I need a new face to talk to.

I wake up, make myself breakfast, watch t.v., play games on my phone, go on a jog, eat snacks, eat dinner, take a shower, and go to bed. And it's the same every day. Or should I say was.

I was walking down one of the hallways to my parent's room and I overheard them having an interesting conversation.  I stopped against their door, pressed my ear against it, and listened quietly:

"Honey, did you here about Bob and Penny? They said they are renting an apartment down the street. Bob got a new job here in Iowa. He is a construction worker and got called for a huge job offer to build...ugh...I don't recall what for...but it was for something," said my dad.

"I know!! I can't wait to see Penny! I am just so excited! Jenna is coming as well. You remember Penny and Bobs daughter? Don't you Jeff? She's Lucy's age! They will become the best of friends when they get here," said mom.

"They arrive here in three days. It is going to be nice to see them again. It's been so long," said dad.

I heard footsteps. Pat, pat, pat. There were some more muffled words, but I couldn't make it out. I took off towards the living room. I jumped onto the couch and picked up my phone. I tried to look as casual as possible.

"Lucy we're going to the store. Do you want anything?" said my dad.

"No, I'm good."

"Okay then. We'll be back later. Call if you need us." said my mom as they went out the door.

After a couple of minutes of just sitting on the couch with my phone the door bell rang. Who could that be? I ran over to the door and looking through the glass I could see a boyish figure, but the glass was very blurry so I could have been wrong.

I thought, mom and dad do not want me to open any doors while they are out of the house. They would kill me if I did. And the person through the door didn't look like a man, he looked my age. So I opened the door.

"Hi," the boy said.

"Hi. May I help you?"

"I came to see Lucy, is she here?"

"I'm Lucy."

"Oh. I live across the street and I always see you going on walks, I thought maybe you can join me for one?"

"My parents..." I trailed off. Realizing if I mentioned my parents not being home, I could ruin my chances of meeting our cute neighbor. But if I do go and my parents get back I'd be in for it...I was sure of my decision, because I felt it was the right thing to do.
