Why the hell does school exist? Sometimes i have the urge to stay in everyday and sleep. You know how sometimes people ditch? Yeah that isn't me. Freshman year I did but now it's just fucking dumb. I made it into UCLA and if I slack off now they'll take that away from me. I don't ditch because if I come into school on time, I would be throwing away my attempts to wake up early and get to school on time. Plus, everytime I don't attend school time flies by and I think of how easy it could have been to just attend school.
Tomorrow is a new start for me. I will be attending a new school and I will be sleeping in a different and more refreshing room.
"Taylor! Have you finished packing?!" Mom yells from downstairs.
"No!" I yell back.
"Hurry up!"
I quickly scurry to pack the rest of my things. I close the big box I placed my shoes in and grab the small box on my bed then start kicking the big one out my bedroom door.
"Taylor don't kick the box!" Mom scolds when she sees me at the doorway trying to kick the big box out the small step on the door.
"Well I can't carry it." I huff.
"Just put the things in the car."
With another huff I start again what I had been doing. When i finally reach the car I place the small box on the passenger side floor and place big one in the back seat. I hop into the passenger seat and blast the music as I wait for mom to get in as well.
Our trip starts and I have the window rolled down with my hair flying everywhere.
I'm excited but at the same time scared. We're moving back to California where my story started only seventeen years ago. I was born in Santa Ana California but my mother decided to move when I was eight. Michigan did me good but I've always wanted to go back to my birth place.
This trip will be a long one.
Mark: What's up cous?
Me: The sky and a few birds.
Mark: What? No clouds?
Me: Nah, no clouds.
Mark: So how has your ride been so far? Where are you guys right now?
Me: In hell.
Mark: Poor baby.
Me: I need food.
Mark: What happened to the money I gave you?
Me: There's no gas station for miles.
Mark: Didn't you guys think of packing food?
Me: Sadly my mom did and she packed while I waaaaaaaaa
"Mom! What the fuck?" I yell.
"What? Open your mouth right now!" She says.
"No mom. I promise it was just because-"
"Bite it." She warned.
So I did. I chewed and chewed until my mouth was on fire.
"Mom! Mom! Mom! It burns!"
"That will teach you to not say any bad words in your life again."
"Okay okay! Mom please it BURNS!" I scream.
"There's water in the back."
I quickly jump into the backseat and look everywhere. No. Water.
"Mom! There's no water!" I scream.
With every breath I take, with every word I speak, it burns.
She pulled over and got out of the car. She opened the trunk and came back.
"Where's the water?"
She stayed quiet.
"MOM! WHERE'S THE WATER!"
"Don't yell at me! I am your mother and you have to respect me!"
"Mom the water."
"No! Don't yell at me! You hear me! I am your mother and you need to learn to respect me!"
We are driving through a desert and it's making it even worse.
"Mom..."
Those were my last words. Now all I see is black. You know how before you die they say your life flashes before your eyes? Yeah well that's not what happened. The only thing crossing my mind was, "why did she remember to pack the ripest jalapeños but she forgot the water?"

"Are you okay?" Mom asks as soon as I wake up.
"Yeah." I croak. My mouth still has a bad taste.
"Here." She hands me a small paper cup of water.
I down it and look at her. "Thanks." I whisper.
"We're in Vegas. Do you want to do anything or do you want to keep driving to California? It's only a couple more hours."
"Can we get food?"
"Yeah where do you wanna go?"
"Mom you can cut the nice act."
"Oh good! We're going to Pollo Loco. I've been craving the churros for the longest time."
"Cool."
"Take a shower and then we'll leave."
"Okay."
"By the way. Mark has been texting you non stop."
"I'll text him later."
I go back to my peaceful sleep. Thinking about how my room will be decorated in black and white with an entire wall dedicated to printed pictures from over the years. My bedding will be silk so that it matches my pillows and my hair will stay healthy.
We're not exactly going back to my home city. My mom is getting remarried. Honestly I'm not on board with it but it's either that or going to live in Colorado with my father. It's not like it's terrible either. The guy that my mother is marrying is completely loaded. She is signing a prenup next week but even if they don't last I am so taking advantage while they're married. I've met him before. He doesn't seem too bad and he has a a daughter a year older than me. She's nice and she said that she'll show me around the new school so I won't be completely alone.
